Whoo Hoo I got approved

Post by Lou Cypher » Wed Sep 23, 2009 1:36 pm

I will soon be getting a new cpap.......

My old tank will be parked in the garage (closet) as a backup

I just got the phone call telling me my insurance approved a ResMed S8 Autoset II with H4i heated humidifier..

The paperwork has been forwarded to the therapist department for scheduling an appointment for me.

So the money I have been saving for a new machine can now go to a battery backup...

Rather than wading through all the posts ( and I have started to do that ) maybe someone could help me out here.

I would like a small battery backup that can also keep the humidifier going for at least one night, two would be nice but not a deal breaker...I am guessing maybe something like lithium batteries .... Anyone got any suggestions ???

What did it take to get them to approve a new machine?

Well err, ahhh,,,,,,,

I said my current one would stop running intermittently... If I unplugged it and waited 30 seconds and plugged it back in, it would work again....

The intermittent part is the brass ring. They can not duplicate it, then they can not fix it, so a new machine was in order and after reading what should be on the prescription from this site, I walked my doc through the exact words to put on the script and VIOLA...

I was also told today that if this one breaks then don't try to fix it, resmed gives them another to replace for two years... WHoo Hoo.....

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival , I hope it is everything I am expecting with the new technology etc etc... It has to be better than my current tank...

I am going to need something read the data also....

I am guess a card reader or some sort of thing to put the chip in and then attach to the computer, am I correct??

Congrats, Lou!

I have the C222 on this page: http://www.batterygeek.net/v/vspfiles/C ... _Packs.asp and use it with my M-Series machine. At 12cm, I can get three nights out of a full charge (with the heated humidifier). HTH

Well that certainly looks like what I am thinking about......

You get two days without a recharge and using the humidifier ??

I see by their ad, I will need an inverter also with my model......

My current setting is 10 but i can't wait to see where I wind up with the auto on. I haven't had a sleep study in 11 years....

I want to check this place too and see what they have.......

Thanks...

Just curious. I don't know what the amp/hour rating is for the average Cpap machine, but I wonder if you could use a UPS(uniterruptable power supply) like those used for computers. A UPS would be much cheaper than the ones on the website listed. Anytime you slap "medical" on anything, the price usually quadruples , even if there is no difference between the medical and standard model.

How do you get that much time out of it, BB? The chart for that battery estimates between 12 and 14 hours at that pressure w/o the humidifier....
I got a similar battery and have not tested it yet, so I don't know how much time I'll get. My battery is this one: http://www.bestcpapprice.com/Owell-Indu ... 0-516.html

It's similar to the C222 and estimates the same running times.

Lou, you won't need an inverter if you get the ResMed converter: http://www.bestcpapprice.com/ResMed-S8- ... 3-335.html

I got a great price and excellent service from BestCpapPrice.

Congrats on the new machine!

twokatmew if you use your battery please post the results....

If it will power your humidifier with the cpap and for how long.

Or just the cpap and by the chart you should just about get two nights out of one charge.
Thanks for the info.....

Will do. But ... unlike the newer DC-compatible M Series humidifier, the H4i (and earlier) ResMed humidifiers are *not* DC-compatible. This means we ResMed users can only use our humidifiers in passover mode using the converter. If you get a pure sine wave inverter you can use AC power for both machine and humidifier, but it will really eat up battery life.

I'll set up my machine using the battery & converter and see how many hours I can get before the battery dies.

Sorry, twokat. I should clarify. When I bought the battery and tested it, I was still only getting 5-6 hours of sleep a night. I might have been on a pressure of 10 at the time, because my pressure changed four times over about 16 months with my ex-doctor. But I definitely did get three nights of use out of a full charge, with the heated humidifier. So, figure anywhere from 15-18 hours. Maybe the website errs on the side of caution with its usage hours estimates. (BTW, I was told this type of battery shouldn't be drained completely. Run it down low, but don't let it go all the way to empty. I check it monthly and use it occasionally, just to keep it in good running order.)

Congrats on the purchase. It's nice knowing that the battery is there if it's needed. I hope yours works as well for you as mine does for me.

Twokat, I'm testing my battery again now. I don't want to mislead anyone by making claims that are less than accurate, especially considering how expensive these batteries are.

I'll post my updated results in a few days.

Thx, BB! I should get mine set up today so I can see just how long it'll run. Thanks for mentioning not to let the battery drain completely. When I first set mine up, I forgot and left the ResMed converter plugged in. After a while, I noticed a beeping sound coming from the battery, so it does have an alarm on it at least.

BTW, I see Titrator selling a C222 battery and claiming he gets 40hours at 12cm using an IntelliPAP Auto *with* the humdifier! I could have sworn I read that the IntelliPAP's humidifier is *not* DC compatible, but .... Here's the link:

Wow, that's a heckuva deal. Titrator could very well have gotten that much time out of the battery. If my memory serves (and that's questionable ), I'm pretty sure that I still had two of the four battery indicator lights lit after my three nights of therapy with it, so it seemed the battery had only discharged about half of its power at that point. (FYI, after sleeping for almost eight hours last night, my battery is still showing all four indicator lights today.)

I'll be interested to see how much time each of us gets from our respective batteries. There are no storms in my forecast, so the testing continues.
