"ideal" nos. of channels in sleep study

Post by greenfx » Tue Sep 22, 2009 12:11 am

Hi

I have been reading this forum and saw people citing upto 38 channels in sleep study.
Is 24 channel adequate for sleep study ? Any thoughts ?

From a very good friend and PSGT:

A 24 lead montage would be sufficient for most sleep studies. this is a modified EEG for sleep. Most sleep studies are run with a 6 hour minimum. Now if you have a pt that needs a more sophisticated neuro work up you would do a full EEG hook up which would definately be more than 30 leads or electrodes. these studies are for patients who are ate risk for seizures, strokes, and mental illness and such. A full sleep EEG is run for 8 hours. Some would argue that all EEGs need to be full because anytime you modify it you risk missing something. Hope that helps.

And from me personally: ain't no way in h*ll I'm washing my hair or ANY part of ME in cold water!!!! I'm always cold enough as it is. I bought a very nice stainless steel "flea comb" like I use for my dogs and cats and use that to loosen the goop, and I'm GENEROUS w/the shampoo and haven't had any problems.

My sleep centre suggested using undiluted hair conditioner on the goop and let it soak in before washing hair normally. It worked reasonably easily for me (male with short hair) but I've nothing to compare it with.
