If I could pick any cpap I would like to get my hands on the one that had the built in heated hose, I think it is made by Fisher and Paykel called a Sleep Style 600. Something like that anyway. Heated hose should be standard on all machines I think but what do I know. That would be my choice.

The one in your (and my) profile.

Sorry, I'm just a hard-core "Legacy" model fan (Pro 2s and Autos w/C-Flex).

Good luck in your quest for another one.

fyi fisher and pykel is coming out with a new model that includes a usb memory card and online uploads done by the patient for the patient and caregivers.

I can get the release date if intrested. It is in the 600 series. I am impressed with their new model.

They have always done well with humidification but the technology lacked in the memory storage arena, and they have finally caught up with the big boys (respironics and resmed).

virgo RT -Will the new Fisher & Paykel 600 series machine have exhaltion relief of any kind?

I have always been impressed with Fisher & Paykel's humdification and now they have software in the 254 and, you tell us, another in the 600 Series will have detailed data for the patient , but will there be any exhalation relief?

are there any "travel" type machines with exhaust relief?
I use the aflex on 3 setting- I dont like fighting the wind

as far as I know- the smaller- easier traveling machines are pretty basic- correct?

and of course I need humidifier- so perhaps idea of easier to travel machine is kind of dumb for me-

maybe I should buy another aflex- which works fine for me- use it to travel so I dont have to unhook the regular setup?

You know this extra machine would also be a backup machine. If you utilize the software for the machine you have then you might want to stay within that brand. That way if your older machine goes belly up you have a machine that still gives you software data. If you don't use the software, then this might not be as important to you.

packer - that's what I did for a travel/backup machine. I like my A-Flex!! I got a good deal on cpapauction.com.

I have tried it here for a couple of weeks to make sure it is working fine. I have the machine all set at my pressures, the integrated humidifier and the "brick" packed in a small carryon bag with wheels. There is also a hose and mask in the bag and a few other incidentals that I might need like the oxygen adapter in case of a hospital visit and an extention cord. The bag has an ID and a medical equipment tag on it. I have my name and address on everything in the bag.

I don't have to pack up my home machine and risk missing some needed part which I am very likely to do! I just pick up the bag or pull up the handle and roll it away!

My mistake it is acutally the 200 series that has the usb technology stick. But as to the question of exhalation releif. I am very impressed with their technology it is not similar to resmed or respironics. F&P from their website has

"The strongest differentiator in the SleepStyle™ 200 series is the Ambient Tracking® Plus auto-adjusting technology. Ambient Tracking® Plus balances humidity to:

compensate for changes in room temperature – minimizes condensation
compensate for humidity loss during leaks – maximizes humidity
The overall result is the most effective CPAP therapy under changing conditions"

The exhalation relief is what they call auto-adjusting technology. Which goes beyond just dropping a few pressure marks to give releif, it actually tracks your breathing pattern and has an alogorithim to determine when an awake phase is coming and completely drops pressure to the set awake pressure usually a 4-6 so that there is no startle reflex and the mask stays on through the episode and then re-ramps to therapeutic pressure when the patient falls back to sleep. Decreasing the startles from the high pressure means longer time on your machine, increased compliance, and SLEEP!!!!

It's my best guess that Virgo is referring to the F&P 254 Auto CPAP. The "exhalation relief" on that machine is called SensAwake, which is designed to recognized the change in breathing when the patient is awake, and reduce the pressure at those times. It has been around for a while now, and a couple of forum members have one.

Ambient Tracking Plus is a humidifier control feature and has nothing to do with exhalation relief.

SmartStick is F&P's name for it's use of a USB flash drive for data transfer.

F&P makes many models in the 200 series. Only some have the SmartStick and/or Ambient Tracking Plus features. And only some of the models with SmartStick have full data reporting capability. Only the 254 Auto has SensAwake. It also has Ambient Tracking Plus.

And it should be noted that the new Respironics Series One humidifier has features similar to Ambient Tracking.

Here's a link to the F&P machines: http://fphcare.com/osa/products.asp

But I'm just a patient. Virgo RT is a professional.

Virgo RT, that new F&P machine sounds really interesting. If it can anticipate arousals, etc. it would really help in my instance, I think.

I like my IntelliPAP autoadjust. As I get my therapy 'dialed in', it is working better and better.

But if I could have ANY xPAP machine with price not being an object, it would probably be the Respironics BiPAP SV. There are enough features and 'handles' on that machine to tweak therapy to any degree necessary, and the ability to be ready for changes in the future.
