I am an RT that lurks these forums. I don't write much at all, I listne mostly and learn.
I learn what people are saying about different equipment and the problems they are having and the solutions.
I have used alot of the information that I find every day.

Thanks

Don't worry, you have the latest new toy, so you won't get bounced off the see-saw onto the tarmac only to end up with broken glasses ... minus your toy. Hmmm, then again, perhaps you will!

Really, this is a pretty friendly forum and most are very helpful.

Telling me to lurk more is like saying "Don't ask questions, just listen for a year like I did", and that's just not me. I have questions about various masks because I've developed a horrendous looking mark on the bridge of my nose, but my rather friendly RT has given me a new mask which may hopefully help. It sounds like I'm lucky to have a generally good RT/DME, although it has only been two weeks, and she does get a bit defensive when I ask things like "Is there a way I can get a copy of EncorePro 2.1 so I can read my own data", as though somehow me having access to daily reports is evil. I'm not trying to self-titrate or anything, I just have questions. Lots of them, which leads to the next reply.

Brianarn, ask away.... i am still here and so are your fellow users you can email me directly or post a new thread. As for the encore pro 2.1 you can find it on ebay im sure i've seen one. The only thing with us RT/dme handing it out is that we usually only get one copy and we have to pay for it, if we dont order enough cpaps from the big maker. usually about $200 or so and it is not something we are willing to part with, please understand.

RT's-ability to work on a team, communicate and explain things in simple terms are also desired qualities. /quote]

Hi Virgo RT

The fact is that we do not have a regular RT contributor who fullfills 5aces criteria.

You sound like just the kind of person who might do this.

So I want to welcome you, and express the hope you will stay.

Getting flamed is part of the experience on this forum, not always enjoyable, but part of life on this planet. And maybe one could say that being flamed, and handling it well, is part of our personal growth as human beings.

There is a saying - it is not what happens to us that matters in the long run- it is how we handle it.

Again - welcome.

cheers

Doesn't seem like people should have to have a thick skin to add their thoughts and opinions, professional or not, so long as they're not telling people they're stupid or being jerks about it.
I think what gumby was sayin is he wouldn't join until he was sure he wanted to be around them people. Really?

Seems kinda futile to join a forum then post complaining about the people who were there when you joined. But you did lurk? Really!

I would avoid suggesting changes such as making categories so you can find things. Really!!

I have only been a member of this forum since mid May. I have see a few RT (usually guest) who drop by to say something that is usually either very basic knowledge or sometimes completely off the wall and they didn't respond in a very nice manner. We have also had so cpap patients do the same.

Why is it that when a question is asked that gets answered by someone with special training like an RT, get blasted before any discussion about who or what was said. We get off the wall suggestions for various problems all the time and we thank those people who took the time to answer yet when someone from the "other side" wished to join and participate we automaticaly put up the walls and defenses before we have even been given a chance to see their worth and how they act.
"
Is it so hard to treat a new member that happens to be an RT with a bit of civilty and allow then to interact with us without have to spend all their time in defensive mode? I couldn't see anything that would have drawn such hositility from me by what she said. I actually felt embarraressed by some of the things that were said to Virgo RT. She was a lot more gracious that I would have been.. If I had been in her shoes and received the welcome she did, I would most likely tell you take a flying xxxxxxx leap somewhere.

Sure we the most of us has some horror stories to tell about DME BUT Virgo RT is just an employee bound by employer stuff and I doubt very serious if any of us has had dealings with this particular DME to warrant such animosity at one of its employees who has not harmed us in any way. Are we just going to automatically brand any RT or medical person as the enemy because a few have had bad experiences?

I read her comments and I didn't see anything that I felt warranted such animosoty. I was embarrassed by what I read. Now I am going out to put on my kevlor jacket... I thought the members here had more manners than to attack someone who had done nothing wrong to them based on what someone else had done in the past. Geez, if we could get by with that, I would be in trouble for trying to castrate everyman that reminded me in the least way of my second husband who deserves to be castrated.

I guess being gentle doesn't become me. But Really, I don't understand why people want to join a group then complain about the group? Who was it who said - I wouldn't belong to any club that would have me?

Perhaps another class in understanding group dynamnics and Team Building need to be required for RT's and RN's. Search for Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing. Then find out what happens each time a new member joins the group. Let alone starts suggesting changes. LMAO.

But hey if your RT is giving you what you need then all you need to do is attend your "Support Group" meetings and call your DME when you need help. No posting required. And that IS the way it should be.

Good Luck

Because the person who may have been deserving of such a tirade isn't readily available. Kinda like when somebody gets cut off on the Interstate and the guy takes off at 90 miles an hour. Since that guy ain't around, the Rule of Rude Behavior requires the next poor schmuck(ette) to be cut off, even if she's not guilty of anything.

I might have gone with surprised and a little disappointed.

Frankly, the ELE can't come fast enough for me. I hope it's an asteroid.

PS - I wonder what a "schmuckette" would look like.

If you're in the medical field, specifically sleep you have to have incredibly thick skin to exist here. A year or so ago, a certain percentage of this board ganged up on me with the group/pack mentality of ''one person hates you, so everyone should.'' Even the admins got involved. I still see the value in coming here, and a lot of folks defended me then.

Someone give some love to those of us in sleep who are not RRTs. I came from a science background.

Are you interested in a spectacular visual during a several day approach or do you prefer a "What-was-that?" sudden end?

I have a vision that we will figure out an easy way to ensure that children develop wide, deep, healthy and attractive jaws and then obstructive sleep apnea becomes an obscure bit of history.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ycw4uaX ... re=related

I think I'd like as much advance notice as possible. I have to paint the house, and I'd hate to get the "15 Year" warranty paint if I only need it to last a week or two.

I wonder if you can get "hexed" like you can with rain. You know, like every time you wash the car, you can pretty much count on an asteroid collision.
