Another newb with questions

Post by PaVetter » Tue Sep 15, 2009 11:36 am

I have been using my machine every night for about a month and a half. I just found this forum and of course have some questions. First, can I get any useful data from my machine? Second, if I can I have no idea how, can someone elaborate? I'll stop for now, thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, and welcome to the forum, PaVetter.

Unfortunately, the answer to your question is no. The "Plus" machines only offer compliance (i.e., usage hours) data. Even though you're past the first 30 days with your machine, I'd try hard to exchange it for a fully data-capable machine. You're flying blind with the machine you have now.

The Respironics Plus is a entry level CPAP unit. It only provides usage data.

If you are serious about your therapy (which you seem to be or else you would'nt be here) I highly recommend the
REMstar Auto M Series with A-Flex and Encore Software. Visit the Respironics website for more info.

I am pretty sure I listed the wrong machine the first time. Please see post above for description. Can someone please tell me if I now have the correct machine.

Yep, sill correct responces. You need at least a DS400 "M" Series REEMstar Pro to get data. The DS200 only records the number of hours it is turned on and in use. Sorry.

Thank You, Since it has been more than a month, how does one get a machine that reports data? I have a two month follow up appt with the doc on Friday.
Why do they prescribe machines that do not let the gauge the effectiveness?

Good question...

Money.. Of course...

OK what you will need to do to upgrade (and have your insurance pay for it). You will have to complain to your DME and your doctor that your CPAP is not working and although you have tried and it has been determined you need it you have not seen any of the benefits. Your DME will then have to loan you "trial" 1-2 weeks to gather the supporting evidence that Auto Therapy is appropriate for you. Your physician will then need to write a letter of "medical necessity" along with the report generated by the Auto to justify this upgrade.

This has worked for us with the exception of Medicare.
