It wasn't a hysterical reaction. It was an honest public service announcement. I've treated many with lung disease caused by breathing bleach.jdm2857 wrote:cpapqueen1 --
Why the hysterical reaction? He didn't say he was going to operate his humidifier with bleach instead of water.
A 10% solution of laundry bleach in water is cheap and very effective at killing the vast majority of microorganisms. Rinse thoroughly with tap water and the bleach is all gone.
If I told you that many hospitals sterilize masks with high doses of radiation, would you scream about the dangers of exposing your lungs to radiation? When the sterization is done, the radiation is gone, too.
And don't tell me about the manufacturer's instructions. They worry about what someone might do, and what they could be sued for. These are the same folks that tell the DMEs to remove the Clinical Guides from the box before giving the package to the patient. We're all morons to them.

I love the idea of using the hose connector to make an closed loop while cleaning. Easy way to wash the entire interior of the hose without spills.

Alcohol is safe as a disinfectant from a patient point of view (as long as you let it evaporate), but may affect the elasticity of the hose material in time. I would use alcohol only if you need its solvent or disinfection capabilities.Roeschti wrote:So true.cpapqueen1 wrote:NO CHLORINE BLEACH!!!! I will probably use Isopropyl alcohol. Or Ethanol, not sure yet.
As far as a good acid to use on a hose, you might consider trying citric acid. Like vinegar or lemon juice, it is a natural acid used in many foods. It does not have any odor I have noticed. (I use it for taxidermy). Rinse the hose well if you use any cleaner. The lemon juice, especially might be harder to rinse out because it contains some oils.

Didn't thought about that, thanks.timbalionguy wrote: Alcohol is safe as a disinfectant from a patient point of view (as long as you let it evaporate), but may affect the elasticity of the hose material in time.
