Greeting all,
I have a Resmed S8 Elite cpap. It has been running very reliably for 3 years in a row! It's time to upgrade and have a back up.
Instead of buying a normal CPAP machine. I was thinking into an APAP so to improve hopefully the comfort of my therapy
My dichotomy is which one to buy? The shortlist is the following:
a) S8 AutoSet Vantage™ or b) S8 AutoSet™ II
Both seems very similar in its features. However I don't seems to grasp the real difference between both of them.
The opiton A) S8 AutoSet Vantage™, Key features seems to be the following:
- Choice of fixed CPAP, EPR™ or AutoSet™ mode
- AutoSet mode adjusts pressure breath by breath for maximum comfort
The option B) S8 AutoSet™ II seems to be:
- New whisper-quiet operation is 75% quieter than before
Please I need some advice if you can share your experience ASAP would be great as I need to order it quite soon.
Many thanks
Golmos
Advice needed to upgrade a CPAP into a Resmed S8 APAP...
Re: Advice needed to upgrade a CPAP into a Resmed S8 APAP...
AutoSet II has the latest Easy-breathe (tm) technology, plus EPR, can operate in APAP or CPAP mode, and is quieter (tho I used the Vantage for 5 nights and it's pretty quiet). The AutoSet II is on my wish list .
ResMed S9 range 9.8-17, RespCare Hybrid FFM

Re: Advice needed to upgrade a CPAP into a Resmed S8 APAP...
I just upgraded to the S8 Elite II Autoset from a regular S8 Elite II CPAP and have noticed a improvement in therapy.
With the CPAP i was getting AHIs in the 5-10 range and AIs were often 0.4-1. Now with APAP my AI is 0.1 or 0.2 and AHI is around 3 or 4
With the CPAP I had EPR set to 3 (max) and have found with the APAP i can easily have it turned OFF. Turning it OFF or down on the CPAP seemed more noticable than on the APAP.

I use a ResMed, myself. BUT, if I was going to get a new humidifier anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to check out other brands, especially if I thought I was going to get heavy into the software thing. But, hey, that's just me. I love my ResMed, but there are several brands of APAP out there. And the more you learn about ALL of them, the better position you are in to choose--especially if you are going to pay out of pocket. CPAP.com has a lot of features for comparison shopping.
