New user\trial machine
I am having trouble keeping on the nasal pillows all night. I wake up with mouth full of air and need to blow it out and feel maybe the pressures are too high. The resmed is set from 4-10 and when I wake up like this it is 9 or 10. Is it because the machine is variable and I don't need it that high? I go in Thursday for my 2nd night of sleep study. With a cpap on I guess. Will it help when I get my own? I am medicare age so need to have this 2nd study to have medicare cover. On my first study the report said mild sleep apnea with AHI of 9.5/hour and low SaO2 of 73%. I feel better when I use the machine but can only manage to sleep about 3 hours, wake up, lie there for an hour or so, then its on and off the rest of the night. Any suggestions?

some arent suited to the nasal pillows type mask, you may be better using a nose only mask

I had the same experience with feeling a need to expel air through the mouth. It took me a long time, but I no longer have that problem. I doubt switching from nasal pillows to a nasal mask will help. A full face or hybrid will relieve the problem.
You, as a newbie, won't believe how many masks I have gone through, but you will probably find that you can only tolerate the same mask for a certain number of nights in a row until you become fully adjusted to your primary mask, or have experimented with enough masks to find the ideal one for you. I don't think there are very many of us who are still using the same model of mask that was issued when first starting therapy. I did meet one fellow like that, but I think that is not the norm.
I don't mean to discourage you, but to be forewarned is to be forearmed.
Best of luck to you.
