Swift LT-Burns Nose.
I've been wearing the Swift LT for a couple weeks. When I put it on, it feels like it's burning the skin around my nostrils. Anyone else have this?? My old Swift ll didn't do that. I've been using Ayr Gel, that helps, but not understanding why it happens.
Thanks, Larry..

Re: Swift LT-Burns Nose.
When I use the large size pillows,I must increase the tension on the rear straps to hold the wider nosrtril openings in place and get a rub burn if I zealously over-tighten.
On the medium pillows,I can ride the headgear a bit loose because the prongs seem to seat better in the nose.
Still haven't decided if I like more air or a comfy headset, would be nice to have both!

Re: Swift LT-Burns Nose.
I found help for my own problem. I tried "Petroleum Jelly" or Vaseline if you have it. I just put a little on my nostrils and the tip of my nose, and no more burn.. It also works good on squeaky drawer slides, closet doors etc. Thanks, Larry...

Also can try pure lanolin - comes in a tube - usually sold in baby/mother section of Wal-mart or other drug stores. Takes just the tiniest drop to sooth the skin.
Re: Swift LT-Burns Nose.
I am having the same problem. I'm new and have been using the different size pillows for almost 2 weeks to find a better fit but for the last couple of nights my nostrils burn all night long. I have a humidifier and I keep using the incline to lower the pressure. Any idea why they burn?Sleepy Boy wrote:I've been wearing the Swift LT for a couple weeks. The remedy I have found is:

Bad boy.
From the Mayo Clinic website:
Typically, petroleum jelly applied to the inside of the nostrils drains down the back of the nose with normal nasal secretions and is swallowed. Rarely, small amounts of the jelly can migrate into the windpipe (trachea) and lungs. Over many months, the jelly can accumulate in the lungs — leading to potentially serious inflammation known as lipoid pneumonia.
.............
If you must use a lubricant, choose the water-soluble variety.
Ayr Gel can be used inside the nose and contains no petroleum products.

Re: Swift LT-Burns Nose.
The burning can come from a skin sensitivity to silicone, or from friction of just rubbing slightly against the inside rim of your nares all night as you move. When I first started using a nasal mask, I had some soreness for about a week or two, but it finally subsided as my skin built up a little toughness to the new presence. I was trying out nasal and full-face masks at the time, so that gave my nares a rest every few days as well. I did use an aloe hand lotion on the outer rim of my nostrils several times per day, and Ayr gel inside my nares at nights during that period, and it greatly helped.redbear wrote:Any idea why they burn?
For the life of me I just cannot master the apparently obtuse Search function of this forum....But several months ago, someone listed a USA contact for free samples of Lanishoe, and I was sent enough to last a lifetime. This stuff helps in a tremendous way to relieve that soreness. I'm not convinced that it really helps with sealing the nasal pillows, but some find that it does.
Just a note to say that many folks here have found that the Swift LT pillow is now significantly inferior to its quality of a year or more ago, and that the nasal inserts are collapsing compatratively quickly after purchase, causing leaks and decreased effectiveness of therapy. See this tediously long post, if you could possibly have missed it previously. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41729&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Re: Swift LT-Burns Nose.
If find irritation can result from moisture. I use no or minimal humidity and keep the pillows clean. For me that results in a good seal and no irritation.

Re: Swift LT-Burns Nose.
For me, if I'm not mistaken, the burning seems to be coming from the air. If the pillows collapse, I don't feel the air coming in and I don't feel the burning. But when I adjust the pillows and feel the air then the air feels like burning. They set up my humidifier to 2 so I moved it up and down to 3 and 1 to see if that help-NO. I was told that the numbers reflected the heating level and not the moisture. Is that true?
btw, I do see that the pillows collapse while properly placed. I have to be adjusting them through-out the night.

Re: Swift LT-Burns Nose.
This is interesting to me, because I switched in March to the LT after using the previous model for almost 6 years, and I've been having the same problem, but it never occurred to me to attribute it to the LT.Sleepy Boy wrote: My old Swift ll didn't do that.
Ayr Gel doesn't do it for me, so I have been using Lasinoh lanolin. But is anyone else experience such irritation that they walk around looking like their nose has been ravaged by a serious cold? I am trying to get a face mask to work so I can take a little break from the pillows, but other than that, I don't know what do other than keep applying lanolin, and try other ointments during the days.
Re: Swift LT-Burns Nose.
I got my LT in April/May to replace my Swift II that was chewed up by one of my dogs. It was an emergency-type replacement on a Sunday afternoon, so I ended up having to purchase the mask out-of-pocket. I really dislike this mask (I refuse to use the word hate for anything ). I would MUCH prefer to have my Swift II back. I just can't seem to get it adjusted to where it doesn't cause me problems. I have to get it situated just right to make it confy and then it gets jostled in the night when I roll and it ends up waking me up an hour later from the discomfort, or occasionally, a raw spot on one of my nostrils.
What you get in the hear-after depends on what you are after here.

I put my Swift II back on last night, and already my nose is less raw. But I prefer the shape of the LT, more stable when I move in my sleep. Arrrrrrrrr! Maybe a Swift LT II is in order...

Re: Swift LT-Burns Nose.
The same thing happened to me but the inside & outside burned & I had some serious sores on my nares from wearing it just 2 times! It really does dry your nose out, so does the Hybrid for me, I seriously thought my nose caught on fire with that one, shoot, I thought my machine was on fire, geez that was so painful, needless to say, it was sold 2 days later to...Sleepy Boy wrote:I've been wearing the Swift LT for a couple weeks. I sold the LT within a week well, it was actually a trade, oh how I wanted that mask to work for me, I use the Swift 11 but the barrell is so long and with the LT the barrell pillow is softer & shorter, well you win some & you loose some with masks.
I do use the AYR Gel & I love it but the Grandkids we're over & lost it , I hope they didn't think it was Carmex and eat it, I will have to look behind my nightstand to see if it's there, I need it, lol...
Goodluck,

Re: Swift LT-Burns Nose.
I have read most of the replies and some are similar to my experience and others seem off the wall. We all are different, so I don't mean to criticize anyone' s reportings.
I have found that I need the humidifier with the Swift LT, to keep my nose from drying up too much. I got relief from the rubbing on the nostrils by taking a break from the Swift for one or two days while using a different style mask. That gave my nose a chance to heal. The soreness returned several weeks later, but once I took another tow day rest, the symptoms never returned. I don't think vaseline or other ointments would be very helpful for the rubbing; it would just confound the seal. Ayr gel does help, however, to avoid the dryness.

Yes, what you said is the key - we all are different. I tried the Nasal Aire II test drive a few months ago. Within a couple of nights one nostril was sore and the other had a bloody sore. I tried Ayr Gel, but it didn't seem to help much. I'm guessing my nostrils would have "toughened up" with time, but since it was a test drive I shipped it off after a week.pagebypage wrote:We all are different, so I don't mean to criticize anyone' s reportings.
I recently purchased a Swift LT after reading lots of good reviews about it. I also braced myself for pain in my nostrils + the tip of my nose as I've read in so many posts here. I did get sore at the tip of my nose right away. I adjusted the angle and it went away. I have been lucky so far (a few weeks in) in that I have had close to zero discomfort in my nostrils. I REALLY like the Swift LT (so far) and have had good AHI results and a lower leak rate (vs. ComfortGel Nasal).
