Whats happens when Smartcard is full?

Post by Bob_w » Sun Aug 30, 2009 8:03 am

I know the Respironics Smartcard holds 180 days of info, I'm only at 54 days ( a newbie). What happens when it is full? Does it start to overwrite the oldest records or?
I have EncoreViewer v1.0.

Thanks

Are you getting an error message?

Hi Bob,

My understanding may be wrong but:
The smart card holds mucho compliance data - which is completely useless to you: hours of use per day, etc.
But, it holds only about 7 days of full detailed data that you need. This includes stuff like leaks, number of apneas, hypopneas, etc.

When your card gets full of the detailed data - after about 7 days - the next data batch pushes the earliest one "off the shelf" and it disappears. That next data batch can be anything that is long enough to get recorded, a nap, using the machine to blow water out of your hose after washing, etc.

I suggest you download your card's data at least every 7 days. If you nap, you will need to download more frequently. That is, if you want to maintain a complete record.

Please correct me all you more knowledgeable folk.

Happy Naps
Mr Capers

It's 7 sessions Not 7 days up to 3 sessions per day, the 4th won't record any detailed data. So if you nap say 2x/day you could have 7th session on day 3. Or blow dry your hose with the card in it, etc.

If I remember correctly (IIRC) the card can hold almost a year of data which is why I asked if there is an error message. ??

I just had to replace my card (and module), but at the time it had almost 10 months of compliance data. From threads that I have read, it will hold about a year of compliance. Unfortunately there was a problem with the module, which in turn corrupted the card. Now all is working.

I thought that it was 7 days of detailed data, and will check my downloads of data, because there have been a couple of times recently that I have had to nap due to spending time staying with my dad inthe hospital. I thought that the naps were shown, as were those nights and 6 other days of detailed data.

Yes, basically it overwrites the oldest data. I'm not sure how much difference in capacity there is between the Legacy series (the ones I have) and the newer M Series machines, but mine holds approximately 320 days (nights) worth of compliance data and 7 nights (one session per night) worth of detailed data. The oldest detailed data transitions into compliance and after the limit is reached on the compliance data, the oldest data drops off

Thanks for all the replies.

No, I've not had any errors, except when I forgot to put the card back in after downloading, Duh!! I guess I was asking about compliance info. I know that there is only 7 days of detailed data, but was unsure what happened when the compliance data filled the card, but it sounds like it will be just overwritten.

Now that the original question has been answered...

Are we not UPloading the data from the card to the database? Then downloading it to a report...

(You can't "download" in both directions, it would seem to me...)

LOL!

I dunno.......
My card reader sits on top of my PC.....so, the data goes DOWN (downloading) to my hard drive.
If my card reader was sitting on the table where the bottom of computer is sitting, then I would be UPloading it.
RIGHT?

But......the process (when using Encore Pro) is called UPdating the database. RIGHT?

Uploading and downloading normally refer to the transfer of data between systems. Downloading goes from the larger or more central machine to the smaller or more peripheral machine, and uploading is the opposite. So yes, technically, transferring from the card (or more properly from the xPAP via the card) to the PC is uploading.

Similarly, one downloads files from the net, but uploads to it.

And, since creating a report from data on your PC using software on your PC does not involve inter-machine transfer, it is neither uploading or downloading.

The printer doesn't count.

It seems that Up or Down is somewhat arbitrary in the definitions I looked up, but I think we are "creating" a report.
