Opening mouth with mask on...is that OK?

Post by LisaEileen » Wed Aug 26, 2009 3:35 pm

I have a mirage quattro full face mask. I've only had my bipap for 7 days so I'm still geting used to things. I know it's not OK to open your mouth if you have a nasal type mask. But, I'm wondering if it's OK to have an open mouth while using a full face mask? I've woke up and realized my mouth is open. I slept very well for the first time in years last night and realized not only was my mouth hanging open, but I was drooling all over the place too.

open mouth with FFM should be fine - that is why you have the FFM

My husband's mouth drops open with his UMFF and there's no leak problem. He fits his mask on with his mouth slightly open too.

My husband also sleeps with his mouth open. No problems. Some people are just "mouth breathers". I think that's why the full face type masks are better suited for those types of people.

Welcome to the Wives Club. I'm wondering how many of us are out there? Maybe I should start a new thread, sometimes I feel like I'm the only one dealing with this situation. There could be husbands too.
