mattress topper results

OK, that's what I was pretty much afraid of, that "sinking into a hole". Mike would definitely have a hard time turning over as he has problems turning now on a fairly firm mattress. He's about 180lbs. As soon as things cool down here in NJ, I will take him out to try a latex topper somewhere. Thanks for giving me the straight scoop. Dori

My question(and my concern) is how easy is it to turn over from side to side? Does the topper material make a valley(indentation) that might make it harder for him to turn over? Where is Pugsy? Thanks, Dori

Dori, I found it pretty easy to turn over on my side. I didn't feel I was sinking down into the topper so far that I had to lift myself out of a valley or an imprint of my body. My old mattress underneath is pretty firm (though I notice it's sagging slightly) and I think that may help keep the topper from feeling too soft. I slept on a memory foam bed once in a hotel and I would say that the latex is definitely somehow different. I didn't have any issues with the comfort of the memory foam, but I did notice the sinking phenomenon, which some people might not like.

When the time comes to replace our mattress (in about 3 years), I am highly considering spending the money for a natural latex foam mattress. Supposedly, you get all the benefits of memory foam, but without the downsides, i.e., being hot, sinking into the bed, lumping of the mattress.

I think latex foam mattress are rated to last between 20-30 years, and supposedly they do!

I've been lusting over latex mattress also. I've been looking at them on a web site called savvyrest.com. I've been leaning toward an air bed (Comfortaire), but definitely wouldn't mind a latex mattress. Their long life is very appealing.

I'm very heavy and break down cheap mattresses quickly. I spent a night on memory foam and felt like I was sleeping in plastic Jello. I bought a 4 layer (XFIRM,XFIRM,FIRM,MED) latex from http://www.sleepez.com/latex-mattresses.htm and a steel frame. Standard sheets fit fine. They ship 4" layers and will even split them in larger sizes (each half can have a different sequence) You can stack them in any order to get the feel you want.(but get a couple of strong friends) The phone help was great. I got a much better price by picking it up and paying cash, but I wouldn't trade this bed for anything else on the market. They do toppers too. I would buy from them again.

Well, after not being able to find a store that sells latex toppers, just mattresses, I decided to take my chances and order the E.C.O 2" latex foam topper from Overstock, the one WearySoul has. We unpacked it last night about 7PM, no odor at all but we left in on the floor for a few hrs anyway, then made up the bed. First night's report = EXCELLENT!! Mike slept very comfortably, no problem turning over and it relieved his right hip pain when he was lying on that side. His leak rate was lower also. I suspect it was from being less restless. One silly question? Did you have to buy new fitted sheets with deeper pockets? The ones we have barely fit now. Thanks for all the help, I hope anyone having bedding problems can benefit from this post.

Did you have to buy new fitted sheets with deeper pockets?

I already had some deep pocket fitted sheets. Yep, they do make a difference. Even with the 4 inch topper that I got they fit well. They are extra deep though and I have a pillow top mattress that is tall so.... I needed the extra depth.

I am a little less than 5 ft tall with short legs to boot. It is not a graceful image when I have to climb on top of all my stuff... If I am in too much pain I supposed I could use the doggie steps (yep, for the pug to get on and off the bed) but so far I haven't had to resort to it.
