Battery Pack / backup & Insurance

Post by Necro » Mon Aug 24, 2009 10:41 am

Has anyone successfully claimed a battery system on their insurance?
Even with my AHI 126.6 and O2 65% Im having difficulties with getting insurance to see the need.
I think they want me to hold my breath!
Why does insurance not recognize the need for CPAP equipment like anything else?

Yes, I'm amazed to say that my Sleep Center's DME worked that magic and got my battery through my insurance (BCBS).
They apparently had the sleep doc write a prescription letter which designated the battery as necessary to avoid risk of death or serious health risk due to frequent power outages in the area in which I live, and the necessity for 100% compliance with cpap. Find a good doc to do that for you, and persist.
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.

Cool! Your giving me hope! The Dr is doing that and Im working with BCBS... so maybe!
Im in NC so we do have frequent outages although they are typically not all night, but I do need the CPAP if I want to be functional the next day.

Thank You!

Hi folks......I'm back. I've put in for a battery pac to (hopefully) be reimbursed through Sunlife but I've been waiting for months to hear back from them to be reimbursed for anything! I'll let you know if my request is successful.
