If you still snore .....

Post by trudytwilite » Sun Aug 23, 2009 11:18 am

..... should you ask that your doctor increase the pressure?

(Will they make me do another sleep study?)

Snoring isn't the main reason we use XPAP treatment. We use XPAP treatment so our airway doesn't close off while we sleep, shutting off our O2. If you had a machine that recoarded data you can see what really going on and deturmine what needs to be done to correct it. Sometimes even with the correct pressure we snore, sometimes the tissue moves too freely and makes the snoring sounds.

By using a nasal mask you can mouthbreath and loose the benefit of your treatment. Jim

I realize that CPAP therapy is for sleep apnea.

I do have a Smartcard but no way to read it. I may look into a reader when I'm no longer renting the equipment.

It's interesting because I asked my doctor about the data available and he told me it was simply for compliance and that the data won't really tell me how the therapy is going. I thought it was strange when he said it. I see that it's a common theme in this forum.

Some machines with a smart card only read compliance (how often and how long you use the machine.)

If you tell us what the EXACT, FULL name of the machine you are using right now, we can tell you if it gives only compliance data or more.

DON'T settle for a "compliance only" machine when you get your own. We can let you which ones give full data.

You might want to ask an ENT doc to take a look as you could have nasal issues (sinus problems, deviated septum, etc.) that cause the snoring. Either that or your Cpap setting just might either be too low, or you're mouth breathing while sleeping, letting the Cpap air out instead of 'down', in which case maybe a full face mask would be the answer.

The "Plus" model, doesn't collect any useful data, just compliance data.( hours hosed up ot hosed down) Jim

Without seeing the data so you can determine what is causing the snores, it would be hard to justify any changes in pressure. If you can, see if you can exchange your Plus for at least a Pro which has data capabilities.

I definitely think the fact that you are still snoring should be discussed with your doctor. With no-one monitering the effectiveness of your therapy, snoring may or may not indicate that you are still having a significant number of apneic/hyponeic events.
