Where do I go from here?

Post by sleepybug » Fri Aug 21, 2009 5:49 pm

Okay, I called my doctor on Wednesday like some of you suggested, and they sped up the process. The DME called me to schedule an appointment for next Wednesday the 26th.

I asked if they carry the S8 Elite II CPAP Machine and they said it is a special order. Which would delay the start of my treatment, and there are no returns allowed if I have a problem with it.

The machines they carry are the "M Series Auto CPAP with A-Flex". I had not researched this machine so I will have to do that. Also there is some flexibility with the DME if I don't like the machine. It comes with the humidifier, but not the card reader or software.

Is the software, etc. an option I would have to pay for myself? Do I need to ask my doctor to include it in my prescription?

I found out that I will start at a pressure of 8 and a 5-10min. ramp.

The Respironics Auto w/A-Flex is an excellent choice (model DS510HS). Accept NOTHING ELSE.

Don't go with that Resmed junk.

Good luck!

The Respironics is a fine machine. ResMed junk? Hmmmm, a username of "Guest"... a Respironics rep maybe?

That's just silly. Many people here use the S8 Elite II or its APAP cousin. It's quiet, compact, and data-capable. I had a sleep study this week and realized afterwards how much better I like mine than the machine at the sleep lab. That's beside the point, though. Respironics makes excellent machines too, and there are many here who can help you be sure they are offering you an acceptable model.

I have read that the cheaper the machine the less quality. The M Series is $300 less than the S8 I have "had my heart set on" (according to cpap.com). But it's a special order. At what cost? Is it going to be much more expensive because it a special order? And is the wait worth it?

I think either one would be fine. I had a choice and I picked the M Series with A Flex.

There is an active thread entitled BIG UPDATE: NEW RESPIRONICS PR Series Auto CPAP Released! That may be worth looking at before getting the M series.

If you are in a big enough city for there to be competition, you can take your prescription to another DME who stocks the model you want. No one owns a patient.
