New Mask, Rotten Night

Post by WhoKnew » Fri Aug 21, 2009 9:02 am

Well, I woke up to a headache, and checked the numbers on my machine....not stellar at all. I had such high hopes. My mouth felt horribly dry.
Leaks 0.08
AHI 19.0
AI 5.7
HI 13.3
The AHI is about what it was with my Swift LT for Her, but the AI is higher. Before, it was anywhere from about 1.5 to 3.3 and the HI was about 16.5-19.7
I do have the EPR on at 3. My humidity is set at 3.

I realize it's early days, as I enter my 3rd week, but I sure do understand how people get discouraged and quit. I'll turn off the EPR I guess, and see what happens. I'm almost afraid to go to sleep now!!!

Leak 0.8 is this off the LED screen? L/sec?
If so anything over 0.4 means leaking like crazy and all bets are off.

0.80 L/sec of real leak, equals 48 L/min of leak. Big leak.

Gotta work on the leak first. It probably decreased the effectiveness of the pressure and allowed the AI events
OR it is so bad the machine threw up its hands and couldn't score the events properly...
Either way not reliable data.

Okay, so the leakage is the problem. So many numbers floating around, I almost give up trying to keep them straight. Not familiar with the parameters yet, so I don't know what is really bad, etc. for the leakage. When I went to sleep, I couldn't feel anything leaking. Must have happened when I moved or something.....Will adjust the mask and try to do better. Thanks for responding Pugsy. I feel rather stupid. I'll blame it on the poor sleep shall I?

Oh Pugsy, sorry about the incorrect number, but the leakage number was 0.08, not 0.8. So maybe not so bad after all with the leakage thing?

Big difference.

0.08 L/sec very respectable.

Back to original plan, reduce EPR a bit which sort of increases the overall average pressure a bit.
If this type of results continue, a pressure increase probably will be needed.

If you have leak under control and still consistently get higher numbers, the only other variable left is pressure..

If your mouth was dry, it indicates to me you are mouth breathing! Gotta get that fixed!

In this case, mouth breathing is not an issue, SleepyT, because WhoKnew is using a Liberty FFM.
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.
