Canada's Health System Crumbling?

Post by roster » Thu Aug 20, 2009 7:54 pm

What the new Canadian Medical Association President, Dr. Anne Doig, has to say:
..........We have to improve patient care. Period. ........... “I am not the saviour of medicare.” ........ “But we can't just sit back and smugly say we have the best health system in the world while our system is crumbling around us,” Dr. Doig said. ........... I see my patients not getting as good of care as they could and should and I don't find that acceptable. .............

More political jargon IMO. No one in Canada worries about losing their home, savings etc if they should fall ill. Everyone is entitled to health-care. Statements of these sorts have been floating around Canada for 40 years. Sure some will share their horror stories.... Not me... have a peak at mt avatar

OF COURSE there is lots of room for improvement! So what? Name a place (not Denmark please where everything works 100% all the time, but as the other guy said, in the end everyone's covered just about all of the time, even if that time gets a little long on occasion. No one's afraid to go to the ER when they need it, or their MD's office, or a clinic, and we've had this system so long, no one even thinks about money - you just produce your little card, and go sit in the waiting room. Done deal every time. Sheesh!

Ironic. I caught a bit of FoxNews - or was it CNN or .... ??? Just this morning anyway. There was a Canadian journalist on who made the comment that the Canadian health system was "imploding" on itself.

Maybe it's just political rhetoric ramping up for a fall election. Seems to happen quite a bit, considering we have elections almost annually!

Personally, as a health-care worker and a consumer, it's not perfect, but it's not all bad either. We can access care without mortgaging our homes, or paying exorbitant private insurance fees. Yes, there are waiting lists, but perhaps, if people worked a little bit harder at maintaining their health, instead of figuring medical intervention will fix everything, those lists would be reduced.
