THanks from a Newbie - Long

Post by ScrappinMom » Tue Aug 18, 2009 7:06 pm

Hi Everyone! I have been lurking around for a few weeks since my diagnosis and have learned SO much! Decided I should make myself known and offer proper thanks for all your collective wisdom. Thank you!!

Like many others, I have had a hard time accepting this, and adjusting to the whole situation, and my "contraption" as I call it. But I have learned enough here that I know I need to work on it, and will with everyone's help. I have also figured out that I have probably has OSA my entire life. Even as a child I remember having SO many of the symptoms. The doctors just kept ordering blood work and mono tests, and telling me I was fine. No reason for my total exhaustion. Well, 10-12 year old kids aren't supposed to be tired all the time! Anyway...

I have especially had a hard time with the mask. I have claustrophobia, and also just can't stand things on my head or in my face. The DME gave me a Swift LT, which I really hate. I found the Nasal Aire II online, and the dr and dme really discouraged it. But, I read such great things about it (THANKS, BABETTE!!!) that I ordered it myself, and am very thankful that I did. It is a much better fit for me.

As you can see, I was given the Escape, but am working on switching to the Elite, which I now know I need for the data. Just got to get the DME to return my calls.

Thanks again for all the education so far; I'm sure I will be learning much more in the future.

Thanks DreamStalker. I definitely did NOT start out with the right attitude, but I'm working on it!

Welcome Scrappinmom from another mom.

Chasing 4 kidlets about in this house. Started cpap in March and am also so grateful for all of the advice/wisdom gathered here. Certainly helped the process for me.
These beautiful kids in my avi are my motivation for getting healthy and staying compliant. Need to be around a long time. See my new blog at http://creativekidscakeslife.blogspot.com/ Baking Blog http://feedingtheravenoushorde.blogspot.com

Kindly stop spamming this forum with your love of another cpap retail site. You've made a grand total of four posts (one of which has already been deleted), and every one of them is hawking the other place.

Hmm. I'm not often told that I'm fast.

(And great minds think alike, DS. Glad you were "on it" quickly, too.)

Hi ScrappinMom & Froro!

I am so proud and thankful for you both. Your posts are a delight to read. Perhaps I should PM this, but you don't mind a little public praise, do you?

Thank you for 1) taking care of yourselves 2) not stopping there, but 3) taking care of your children and contributing to the health of so many of us on this forum. A lot of the CPAPtalk.com members will tell you their motivation for treating their sleep apnea is their love and responsibility to others. I know my partner and his father would not have confronted their sleep apnea had it not been for their concern and dedication to us. Everybody sleeps more peacefully when there's a CPAP machine in the house. You've given your kids the best gift: a healthy You that will be around for awhile!

Also, Froro. I just checked out your blog, you are so talented, I'm inspired! How did you get that cake to stand on it's side like that? It's a tough choice but I think my favorite is the one with the fondant frogs. Is baking like yoga but with a happy ending?

Best wishes,
Katherine
