new cpap user and new to oracle. it solves the problems of stuffy nose and mouth breathing and is relatively comfortable but the biggest problem for me is the nose leak. i have yet to go more than 2 hours without losing the seal and waking up with dry mouth and all cpap going out my nose. i have experimented with adapting ear plugs, both foam and soft silicone, and taping the supplied plugs but all come loose. any suggestions? what type of tape works best? anyone out there who makes prosthetics or medical/dental appliances or special effects masks who can supply info or materials? i know i'm just a good nose seal away from a good night's sleep so any advice is appreciated.

Nose air leaks were my problem with the Oracle, too. Air snorts, that blew out any kind of nose plugs I tried.

It was years ago that I tried two Oracles (the original and the next one) but looking back on it, what I'd probably try now if I were going to use an Oracle...

I'd cut the leg off a pair of tights and use that leg like a sling or cradle against the nostril openings (the "nares") to keep the nose plugs in place.

I'd tie the ends of that homemade "nose strap" high up on the back of my head, using a doublestart knot.

Using homemade straps -- useful for stablilizing masks other than just the one shown.

Although those pictures are for using a strap with a mask, you can see how the same general idea might work for an Oracle user by placing one homemade strap just underneath the nostrils like a sling. Might help keep nose plugs from being snorted out.

Laura....

Since you've used both the Oracle and the Aura (Aeiomed), I'd like your opinion on an idea I had this morning.

Could both masks be worn at the same time? Would they physically interfere with each other...just below the nose? Or is there normally enough clearance where they wouldn't touch?

Where I'm going with this....is to use the Oracle....with all of its ports blocked off....so that, in effect, the Oracle becomes a "stopper".......a way to stop mouth leaks without having to use Blue Tape.

Well, I scrounged around and finally found an old Oracle I had.

They can both be worn at the same time -- the Oracle and the Headrest (Aura) by Aeiomed.

The bottom of the Headrest's nasal pillows assembly does overlap the top of the Oracle's shield, but with no problem. The Oracle's shield is pretty flat on the area under the nostrils.

As usual, I had to tie a "leg" around the nasal pillows area of the Headrest, but that's nothing new...I do that anyway.

I think it would be quite possible for most people to wear both at the same time.

I personally gave up on the Oracle "way back when", not only because of the nose snorts, but also because of discomfort with having to adjust the shield tight enough to prevent mouth air leaks. Also kept getting squeaks and noise from minor leak breakouts around the edges. So.... your mileage might vary as to whether rigging an Oracle to prevent mouth breathing would turn out to be as comfortable as simply applying tape across the mouth.

Thanks Laura.........

Based on your analysis, I think I'll purchase one to experiment with. A combo Oracle/Aura system might be a little better than the Tape/Aura rig.......so, I'm going to see what I can put together.

Can anyone who uses the Oracle comment on their sleep position? I'm a side-sleeper but have adapted (uncomfortably) to back-sleeping with the Comfort Lite 2.

I thought about trying the Oracle myself. Some of what I read said it wouldn't work for people that had high pressures. I was wondering how high a pressure you have. I am on a bi-level with 16/11 pressure. Any thoughts from anyone.
