comfortlite 2 mask

Post by not so sure » Thu Aug 13, 2009 9:46 am

My current mask is too small and very uncomfortable. I am considering buying a comfort lite 2 it fits well with a good seal but i find the exhalation ports noisy. Has anyone tried a small piece of foam over the ports to muffle the noise.
Most of the other nasal pillows don't seem to fit me.

Thanks Jim

Those exhalation ports are there so that excess carbon dioxide from our bodies goes out into the room instead of back into our bodies. The ports should not be block by anything that stops the flow of air. Some people have constructed some little "deflectors" but they had to be careful to still allow for the air to vent freely. A deflector might muffle the sound a bit, but you sure wouldn't want to use foam directly over the vent.

Carbon dioxide poisoning is not something that you want to do to yourself.

I agree, I wouldn't block or restrict the air flow.

Jim,

I use and like the CL2. However, you don't want to go blocking the exhalation ports. They're there for a reason: to get rid of excess CO2 -- you don't want to go poisoning yourself with excess CO2.

I sleep on my side. I found that the mask noise didn't bother me nearly as much with one ear in the pillow. <grin>

I am using comfortlite 2 mask. Yes it is giving a 'wheezing' noise at and above 7cmH2O pressure. It wakes me up at about 9cm. I am not sure if the source is the exhuast port.

try to probe the exhaust with a pin if possible or blast it with high pressure water as it may be partly blocked, also report to maker as there may have been a batch of masks with a noisy outlet
