Resmed warranty question

Post by Uncle_Bob » Wed Aug 12, 2009 1:36 pm

I was wondering if anybody knows if Resmed's machine warranty will apply to new machine purchased at an on-line auction site?

I don't think so. AFAIK, you have to go through a DME for repairs, so it all depends on who you buy from.

I could be wrong on this, but if it is a new machine, then the warranty should apply no matter where it was brought. I would check their website and see what it talks about there.

Of course I can't find it now, but somewhere in the tips for buyers' section, cpapauction says that if a manufacturer's warranty is important to you, buy from a seller who can provide one. Probably best to ask the seller ... and hope they answer honestly.

Read it and weep.
This is why I decided to spend the extra $$$ and purchase through cpap.com

Doesn't matter much with RESMED what kind of warranty you get - trying to get them to honor any warrenty is difficult. My machine, purchased by my insurance through my original DME in October 2007 is still under it's 2 year warranty. Since I moved from the state where it was purchased and now live over 1000 miles away from the original seller, RESMED told me, in writing, that they cannot honor my warrenty unless it is through the original seller. You know my attorney had fun with this. In the end I ended up getting a new machine but you can't imagine the paperwork that flew to get it.

I'm thinking of trying an APAP machine but i notice the auction prices are getting closer and closer to the price on cpap.com.
An S8 autoset II with humidifier is going for about $500 new on auction. Whereas I could get just the machine for around $80 more and have the warranty (assuming cpap.com are resmed approved for this). I can use my existing humidifier I didn't really need a new one.

According to my sleep doc i am wasting my money as I am getting zero AIs often with my CPAP. But i hear so many people feeling better with APAP i just can't help but want to try it. Another factor is that i have $300 of flexible spending health care dollars to spend by the end of the year and I'd rather use it on a APAP machine than $300 worth of band-aids

ho hum

That is my understanding too. They will tell you to take it to the Resmed reseller you bought it off.

However, I had 2 S8s I bought off Auction (Yahoo when they were doing cpaps) and then when the recall occured, I swapped both S8s for new ones. Now what was interesting is that the ones I bought were US models purchased in the US (& sent via a US friend to me in Aust). I told Resmed where I bought them & how but they didn't quibble & replaced both.

Product recalls are a different class of event from most other events which fall under either written or statute/common law warranty coverage, and are generally handled in a different way.

Cheers,

Bill
