I was totally throwing a guess, there. I figured $1.50/gal for distilled with a gallon a week of usage. If it's that cheap I might just start doing it myself- I've tried it in the past and it is nice to not have to wash out the humidifier pan every other night.El Pap wrote:

For the 10 years I've been on CPAP, I guess I've spent about $100 on distilled water. (Wal-Mart water used to be around .66 cents in the early years)
Distilled water or not?

Re: Distilled water or not?
I thought the issue with tap water was the idea of inhaling chlorine all night long. That worries me more than the extra cleaning involved. Am I confused (again!)?

I think the amount of Cl you breathe in at night is miniscule. One probably breathes more of that in the shower every morning or every time you go to an indoor pool. At some point in the night it's all gone anyhow and then you don't breathe any more in at all.millich wrote:I thought the issue with tap water was the idea of inhaling chlorine all night long. The reason they recommend distilled water is that it does not leave any residue when evaporated. Drinking water (bottled or tap) has minerals dissolved in. When water gets evaporated, dissolved minerals remain. With time this will make a white crust. I use distilled water in my steam iron too.

$500? Do you live in the Sahara desert? 'Round these parts a gallon of distilled water is about 95 cents and lasts 1-2 months. Estimated yearly cost: about 8 bucks.WindFlyer wrote:For the past five years plus I've been using tap water and I haven't had any problems at all. Oh, and I've saved about $500, too.

Holy water batman! You're not supposed to use the deuterium enriched stuff ... just plain distilled from your local supermarket should work fine.WindFlyer wrote:For the past five years plus I've been using tap water and I haven't had any problems at all. Oh, and I've saved about $500, too.
Or maybe $500 is just a wild guess that blew out your rear end.
Oh ... you already esplained ...
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
Re: Distilled water or not?
Yes. Sorry about that. I removed the dollar amount from the original post, too. That guess was way off.DreamStalker wrote:

Re: Distilled water or not?
I just spent $0.93/gallon for distilled water at WalMart here in Michigan. It's gone up. A few weeks ago, I paid $0.73.El Pap wrote:How expensive is distilled water in Michigan?

Jason S., a gallon lasts 1-2 months? When my humidifier was at 2, I was going through a gallon every couple of weeks. Now I have it at 1.5, and I need to refill every three days or so. Still, I can't imagine a gallon lasting me two months....

Re: Distilled water or not?
It does for me. I have my humidifier set at 2.0 and I usually have my machine on for 6.5- 7 hours. I don't dump the unused water every night, I just top off the tank. Maybe that is the difference. I'm on my 5th gallon and I've been on CPAP over 8 months.twokatmew wrote:I just spent $0.93/gallon for distilled water at WalMart here in Michigan. It's gone up. Re: Distilled water or not?
I use distilled water at home. Tap water when travelling on business. No problems. My humidifier is as sparkling as it was on day one.
Use the tap water. Don't loose sleep over it
