wow...seems like there was a rash of negative, anxious posts today...so here's a positive note. CPAP therapy can improve one's blood pressure readings! a nice side benefit! in march 2009, my blood pressure was 140/100 (pre-CPAP)...today, it was 121/64. has to be CPAP because i really haven't watched my sodium intake (as I should).
so there! a silver lining! something to be happy about...

Re: Blood Pressure Benefit!
I posted a poll about hypertension & CPAP...interesting reading. Appears my systolic is only higher than normal following a night where I wake up from events. I started this adventure with what my doc called malignant hypertention...if I hadn't mentioned my systolic had actually been higher (I didn't know how high it tested the day of the appt) on my intake forms he was gonna hospitalize me...all gone now.

That's excellent...
Well, I was going to wait until I had confirmed this, but I have had high blood pressure for about 6 years now, or at least diagnosed then.
I have been on daily meds to keep it under control, since being on cpap in April /09 I have noticed it getting better and better. I have been off meds for a month now, and BP is averaging 124/80, Pretty good if you ask me considering it was through the roof a couple of years ago.
That is excellent that others are also finding these added benefits to being on CPAP.
Had to add to the good news here...

Thanks! If I had a data capable and oximeter, I'd correlate what I suspect and determine if and when I need to take an ARB (to deal with activation of the RAAS pathway from O2 deprivation)...gotta refine this and tell docs. Gotta be others for whom this is true.SleepyT wrote:that's great, muse. glad it's better for you.

Re: Blood Pressure Benefit!
Borderline HBP was actually one of the reasons my doctor sent me for a sleep study. I had a 24 hr. BP monitor and overall it was ok but at night it did not go down as it should, leading the dr. to suspect that apnea may be preventing it from going down. It did improve after I had been on cpap for a while.
