New Respironics Flow Generator Platform?

Post by msm » Fri Jul 31, 2009 8:21 am

I've heard rumors that Respironics is about to launch a new flow generator platform called the Q Series. Has anyone out there seen this unit (been involved with beta testing, etc)? If so, what do you think and how does it compare to the M Series? Do you know when they plan to launch the product? Thanks!

"Q", wasn't he in charge of testing and supplying James Bond with all of his Cool Gadgets.... If "Q" had anything to do with Remstars R & D, I'm sure the product would be better designed than the "M" Series. Jim

ResMed is supposed to release their S9 series in the fall, so I guess Respironics is doing the same thing. It'll be interesting to see what these new platforms offer.

My guess is cuz of the new Medicare compliance reporting requirements ALL of the Mfg's will be pushing a 'new line' that will help reduce their manpower requirements to get paid. Call me crazy!!

The new line of machines will need a phoneline to send your data to a data bank (much like the satellite TV boxes already do) where the DME can access it. The spiel will be that the data is avail to your doc and likely offered to you, with a subscription - read that as a fee. They won't tell you why they are doing things this way but tell you your data will be avail to you online how nice. Have they forgotten about the many who don't get online? Do they care?

My biggest fear is they will remove the current card modules and not develop software to read the new data formats. James Skinner are you listening?

ResMed already has ResTrax, an add-on module for the S8 series that makes the data available via AT&T's 3G wireless network.

Respironics just introducted an updated version of Encore Pro version 2.0 today. Maybe this is in anticipation of their new machine platform.

Our Respironics rep was at the office yesterday and was telling us about the new line of machines. He said that there would be out in Oct. and would have improved features for pt. comfort and new algorithms. They would require the updated version of Encore Pro or Encore Anywhere to read the data. He didn't have any literature to give us or pics, but promised to bring some back to us later in Aug.

I doubt they will be backwards compatible or still use a 'smartcard' either. Let's just hope you can get some (useful) data off the LCD.
