My 4-Week Update

Post by TSSleepy » Fri Mar 20, 2009 1:58 pm

Well, it's been four weeks and I'm still alive. With data and the ability to change my own pressures, I feel like I have the therapy all dialed-in great.

I'm currently running with my M-Series Auto w/A-Flex on a tight range of 11-13 cm H2O and an A-Flex setting of 2. It feels completely natural and keeps my OSA down under an AHI of 1, with only 3-5 apneas per night and minimal aerophagia. Hooray!

But the "comfort" issue is still plaguing me, so I'm not getting as much sleep as I'd like.

I have a deviated septum in one direction and an enlarged turbinate in the other, so I don't usually breathe through my nose. So I'm currently using a Quattro FFM and mouth-breathing all night, like I have my whole life.

The trickly balance is humidity. If I go low, I wake up in the middle of the night hoarse and coughing. If I go high, some combination of mask condensation and/or drool gets my Quattro cushion wet and I start leaking air around my mouth.

I wake up 1-2 times per night from leaks where the cushion around my mouth is wet and slippery. I have to wipe out my mask and dry my face, to get the mask sealed again. I was hoping the heated hose would fix this, but no such luck.

I ordered a sample of the REMZzzs absorbant mask pads, to give those a try.

I have an Oracle oral mask, but it holds my jaw open more than is comfortable and I keep wanting to bite the heck out of it. I haven't actually tried to sleep with it, but I think I will this weekend. It sure doesn't leak, but it feels pretty weird.

I'm also starting to wonder if maybe I can get enough pressure through my tiny nasal passages to use a nasal pillow mask, after all. So I may try out some nasal masks.

Anyway, my symptoms are mostly under control these days. The excessive daytime sleepiness has gone away. The morning headaches/joint pain/muscle stiffness has gone away. The complete lack of mental focus and short-term memory has gone away. The crushing emotional weariness has gone away.

The physical stamina and hypertension are definitely getting better, but still have a ways to go. I've stopped gaining weight, and finally have the energy to start walking some and organizing a better diet.

All-in-all, life is much better! Now I just need to dial-in the comfort factors of humidity and leaks...and I'm good to go.

I can't thank the people of this forum enough for all the information and ideas!

You're right you need to let the babies free when they are 1.5 - 2 cm so they don't fit in there parents mouth . Phone book air freight
I don't know why the bigger fish don't chase the little guy's only if they get 2 close to them. My aquarium is 1 meter and they have enough hiding places . I think that this is the problem ,.. you need more plants so they can hide my friend . Take care and tanks for your visit and comment and compliment .
