I have been reading the I Think I'm in Trouble post viewtopic.php?f=1&t=43683&st=0&sk=t&sd=a#p387773 and had a couple of questions from reading some of the posts.
First off had my first night lastnight with my APAP and woke this morning feeling better than I have in a long time.
I know that there are many in this forum that use the software and have pretty much taken care of their own treatment for a while. I also have the software and will eventually begin doing this myself, but questions have come to my mind. I know that it's been said that the doctor and DME work for us and if given any flack that we should remind them of this. If you dislike the DME and decide that you want to go with another, and say you've not seen the sleep doctor in a while or don't want to see the sleep doctor, how do you get another prescription for supplies? Can you get a prescription from PCP? Then I also have a question that I know has probably been asked here many times, but since I'm writing this post thought I'd ask instead of doing a search trying to find the answer. When it comes time to get a new machine, do we have to do another sleep study or just get another script or what?

Re: Insurance Questions
You are LEGALLY entitled to a copy of your prescription so you can ask whoever wrote it for you for a copy. If they refuse, remind them that you are legally entitled to it and you will discuss this issue with the AMA (American Medical Association) if they continue to refuse. The doctor will be sanctioned if he/she does refuse.
Yes, your PCP can also write a prescription for any and all items that you need including a machine, mask, and other supplies.

Re: Insurance Questions
Your original 'script is good for your replacement machine.
(Depending on state law, there may be an expiration period for all prescriptions. In that case, either your sleep doc or PCP can renew it.)

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
