Condensation on Mask?

Post by eloise1253 » Wed Jul 22, 2009 11:41 am

I stopped using the humidifyer attachment to my CPAP because even when it was set very low, I would still experience condensation drips, not to mention startling tube-pops during the night! We are having a very humid, rainy summer; I find that I still am awakened at night by condensation build-up/drips inside my mask! (I use a nasal mask.) As a fairly new user, I am just wondering if others have experienced this, even without a humidifyer. I like to have the windows open at night. When the humidity is lss, or we've had a fan going, I noticed the condensation is not there. Guess i lok forward to dryer air in the fall & winter!

It must be a very humid environment! I don't know if it would help but you could try a hose cover. The only other option I can think of would be a room dehumidifier. Good luck!

I have solved the problem of condensation caused by exhaled breath inside my nasal mask.

A 8" piece of thick cotton string (like butcher's string) is inside my mask....and it acts like a "wick" to catch and absorb the drops before they can get big enough to roll into my nose.

During the day, my mask and hose dries out with the help of a "mask drier" I fabricated. It uses a little computer fan to push filtered air thru the hose and out thru the mask. Everything is perfectly dry when I'm ready to "suit up" for the night.

I've been using this system for one year....and it works perfectly.

Gerald,
Just be careful you don't grow something in that damp piece of string.

I'd hate to hear that the blob got you.

Terry....

I tried.....but nothing would grow.

I used the same piece of string for 10-months...."watered" it faithfully....every night....and still......nothing.

However, not one drop of "%*&^%$&*%#@!" water has gone up my nose in the middle of the night either!

The hose cover helps.
A lot of people have a heated hose, and that REALLY Helps. I have one and it has helped immensley with moisture, which we call "rain out".
Google "Aussie Heated Hose" or do a search on this forum.
Even when I don't use it as a heated hose, like now, in the summer, the insulation is so thick, I don't have moisture in my mask.
