Anyone out there diagnosed with Complex Sleep Apnea
Anyone out there diagnosed with Complex Sleep Apnea
Just wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with complex sleep apnea, and has anything worked for you? Thanks.
Re: Anyone out there diagnosed with Complex Sleep Apnea
I was a couple of years ago. I used a CPAP earlier and then switched to an APAP prior to the diagnosis. I am now using a BiPap Auto SV with Quattro mask. AHI is pretty consistent in the 2-3 range with 99.7-99.9 patient triggered breaths. The therapy is doing what it should do, but I still remain tired and no doctor to date has figured that problem out.

Complex sleep apnea is a form of sleep apnea in which central apneas persist or emerge during attempts to treat obstructive events with a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or bilevel device.

There's a good 3 part video tutorial about complex apnea on Resmed's site: http://www.vpapadaptsv.com/learn.html

Re: Anyone out there diagnosed with Complex Sleep Apnea
i was dx with complex sleep apnoea late last year, i trialled the respironics adapt SV to begin with but did not get very good results, i felt better than without the machine but my AHI was still over 90, i was swapped to the resmed vpap adapt enhanced, and since then my AHI has been between 0 and 3.0! in talking to my sleep physician he said that while both machines were marketed towards the complex sleep apnea patients he had found that because the algorithms the machines are very different from each other, some of his patients did better with one machine while others did better with the opposite brand- i guess that even with complex sleep apnea there are different mechanism behind the events - my problem has been attributed to degenerative neurological changes (i have multiple sclerosis)- i was quite stunned by the huge difference in results between the 2 machines
the sad part is that when i was dx as having sleep apnea i expected it to be good ol obstructive apnea and thought i would get out of the situation quite cheaply, only to find that the machine i needed cost $4500 (au) not including mask etc. and i would get a whole $500 back from my health insurance- that was a long past due vacation go west! but now that i have my bedside buddy and have been getting good results and know that it will help my health in the long run, i no longer resent how much my little gizmo cost

Thank you all for your replies. It helps to know that other people share this "complex" disorder. It gives me hope that I can adapt.

I was also diagnosed with complex apnea last year. I´ve had a lot of difficulties with cpap adaptation. I don´t sleep better yet. I was wondering if you wanted to share your story with me. Thanks,
John.
