Tired of CPAP!!
Re: Tired of CPAP!!
I definitely understand what you mean. I guess CPAP is like needing a wheelchair or a pacemaker. The difference is that there is a certain higher level of choice in it. There are always different surgical and other procedures you can explore, if it makes practical and $$ sense for you. I'm thinking about those now. I have a terrible time with the mask. I almost always have to take it off before the night is over. I feel so claustrophobic and hot and breathing out takes a lot more effort than normal. I suppose every person has to do what feels right for them-self. Maybe you could try some nights with and some without and see how you feel? Maybe you wear it only on weeknights? Maybe you try going without it and rediscover why you wore it in the first place. I guess what I mostly want to tell you is that I completely understand how you feel.

Hi....
My stupid nightly toilet trips bug me more then having my mask on, As I often disconnect my mask from the tube. I often walk to the loo with my mask still sitting on my *snoz hole* [* nose] then when finished, I return attach hose and fall asleep again

Jules - I don't understand what other "fixes" there could be.....equipment is not perfect. No matter what you do, you are gonna deal with leaks, you get it fixed, they slowly creep back. I don't know understand exactly what I could do for sleeping positions either. Besides that wasn't my true complaint. My true complaint is that I am just tired of sleeping with something strapped to my face all night. I'm tired of being in a situation where I feel like I can't sleep with it, can't sleep with out it. I was coming here to vent frustrations.
And yes, I am still relatively young, will be 32 this year. Weight has fluctuated up and down over last year. And I'm not sure what being a man of God, has to do with this.
Sleepmark - unless, there are different surgical procedures, I was told I wasn't a good candidate because my apnea was so severe. I doubt I'd have surgery anyway. Financial reasons being a big one. I get what you are saying about trying things, etc. I can't sleep without it. I start to either hold my breath or snore and I wake up like every couple of minutes if I don't have the mask on. It's crazy. I didn't do that in the beginning after finding out I had sleep apnea. I could sleep one night with my mask and the next night without and it not be that big of an issue. Now, that doesn't happen at all. I can't get to sleep without it! I don't know if my apnea has gotten worse or it's just because I've gotten used to sleeping with the mask!

Just to let you know, this website has its cliches. If you aren't one of the hipsters who preach how awesome this site is, or the site that sponsors it. ( can't say C p ap . com) , you are from the darkside. Nobody wants to help you. The man of God is just a nonbeliever taking a cheap shot at you because, well, he probably hates you for being a man of God. You should know how that works by now right?
BTW, I am one of the duds from this site. Visits are getting more and more infrequent. I usually promise not to come back, but I find myself here bothering everybody on nights that I am bored out of my mind.

Re: Tired of CPAP!!
Something occurs to me - you said you can't tell whether or not you are sleeping better... well maybe you're NOT (which might explain how lousy you feel). Maybe you need to look into whether or not your whole set-up is correct, whether your mask actually fits properly and is appropriate (a nasal mask won't help someone who needs a full face one), what your pressure is set relative to what you originally were prescribed, and what your numbers are saying (do you have the software and card reader? Do you ever look at your stats?
Re: Tired of CPAP!!
For the record...I ENJOY my CPAP! I look forward to wonderful sleep every night because I dream in 3D Technicolor. Long storied dreams in REM sleep. Feel great and the mask doesn't bother me. I'm more comfortable with the whole set up.

Re: Tired of CPAP!!
Yeah, it's not so much the sleeping with the mask on...it's all the preparation. By the time I'm tired enough to fall asleep, just the putting the mask on part seems like quite a monumental task.

Re: Tired of CPAP!!
I understand this. I've been lapsed lately, and I'm trying to figure out what's stopping me. I think the biggest is that I don't notice any difference in how I feel, whether I wear the mask or not. I have a good machine that lets me view data, and I can see that it's working and not leaking. My partner confirms that I don't snore or gasp while wearing it, and do when I'm not. But no noticeable increase in energy or change in any other issues I have.
Also, my personal perception is that I sleep worse with it on. I inevitably wake in the night several times and need to adjust the mask or wipe the condensation off my face (I've stopped turning the humidifier on - leaving it at passover only - which helped but didn't clear it up completely, even in the warm months). Or if I need to go to the bathroom, I need to fiddle in the dark to turn the machine off because the rushing noise of air if I take the mask off is incredibly loud. I started taking sleep aids on nights I wore the mask just to make it through the night without waking.
I still feel like I should do this. But it's for some abstract concept of my health, not anything I can feel! That's so hard to overcome.

Like it? No way, I miss sleeping face down in the pillow with the blanket pulled over my head. But you have to make the best of it and appreciate the benefit and move on.

Re: Tired of CPAP!!
Well, to give an appropriate cliche, I'm sick-n-tired of being sick-n-tired. I'm looking forward to receiving my equipment this Tuesday. In fact, my wife is getting annoyed at my constant bitching about not having it yet.
Yes, I'm anxious for it. Granted, I'm still in the "new toy" phase of it, being a technogeek and such, but I'm so tired of having this sleep attacks at work, and having no energy throughout the day, that I'm willing to try just about anything to fix it.

Re: Tired of CPAP!!
I'm with you: i am sick of the whole charade, month after month, still waking up just as
exhausted, eyes puffy and bloodshot, too tired to even get moving, day after day. Most days i am too fatigued
to get my usual workout. ( No, exercise does not help the lousy sleep.) Yeah,
i am sick of it. It doesn't work. But i do it anyway.
My husband and i were diagnosed years ago. We quickly stopped using cpap; i kept teaching French and German
and getting international fellowships, blah blah. Now, faithfully compliant, we both feel worse than ever.
Can you prove i am gonna die if i quit again? Is the fatigue really worth it? Phooey.

Re: Tired of CPAP!!
After a year and a half on this I have had some days where I really think it is truly a miracle how good and awake I feel during the day. But I still have many days where I'm dragging and tired even when the machine reports my AHI is very low (1 or less), and it seems I slept very restful for 7 or 8 hours.Leonbergergirlalias wrote:I'm with you: i am sick of the whole charade, month after month, still waking up just as

BTW, I've noticed that on the days that I feel really great, it was a night where I didn't have sinus congestion. I really think there are other factors involved besides just the apnea that need to be treated just as aggressively to get a good night sleep.

Re: Tired of CPAP!!
For a positive pressure device CPAP really sucks.
No, I don't like it. But the alternatives suck worse.
