mouth taping

Post by buggsy23 » Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:05 am

I am thinking about tapping my mouth shut at night. My chin strap keeps coming off, no matter how tight I make it. It just slides forward or backward. I read about other people taping their mouth. I am guessing they are using surgical tape, or maybe duct tape.Any suggestions?

I use nexcare gentle paper tape. Some people use painter's tape, but I find this tape does not breath and I end getting sweaty and it slides off my mouth.

I also use Nexcare paper tape -- it's designed for skin, and works great!!!

Many of us are using 2" wide Blue Delicate Release (#2080) Painters masking Tape by 3m....available from Lowe's paint department.

I think it has the same adhesive as the "medical" versions.

Works great.....seals well.

IMPORTANT: When removing any tape, remove by pulling paralled to your face....not at 90 degrees. Pulling straight away (90 degrees) from your face is uncomfortable.

I've been using tape...nightly....for over a year. I can't find a better system.

I've been taping now for about a year. And over the last two weeks while I was on vacation I began trying without tape.
And I found that I am much better now at keeping my mouth closed during the night than I was when I started.
I found that I only began to have trouble in the early morning hours. So when I did I'd roll on my side and have my face
sideways in the pillow. That kept me the rest of the night. So for the last week I went without taping at all.
I believe the taping has helped train me to stay closed during the night.
I know there has been a lot of talk surrounding this and that it is probably not possible to train your self to do something in your sleep. But I think I may have done it to some extent. : ) This next week will prove more since I will be back to work and the regular grind.

my 2 cents for the week ..
-Dennis

it helps to use an extra length piece of tape and to double back each end forming 2 tear off strips, 1 at each end

also roll lips inward so tape goes on skin and not the more tender lips
