What I wrote in the 'code' box is my first reaction to your post, and how to fix them, before I re-read it and realized that you wanted to know what the numbers meant. There is alot to learn about the numbers, but first starting off, I'd focus on your leaks, AHI (apnea/hypopnea index), your AI (apnea index) and your HI (hypopnea index). The general thought is that you want your AHI at or below 5. AHI is generally made up of the AI plus the HI. The leaks....well, they are what they say. All vented masks leak so that there isn't a build up of CO2 in the mask. Each mask has a listed intentional leak, based off the pressure you are on. (For example, my Liberty intentionally leaks 38 L/m at 10cm of pressure). On the ResMed machines, you can put in certain masks and it will automatically minus out the intention leak, leaving you with what was leaked due to a bad fit. You want your unintentional leaks as low as possible as they tend to skew the numbers and make them unreliable. Once you get the leaks under control, then you can focus on getting the rest of the numbers in check. As far as tidal volume and the other figures, that is a horse of a different color for me and will have to leave that to our more seasoned vets.

Code: Select all
First, you need to be using your machine every night. You can't see the full details of trends and what is considered an 'off night' if you aren't using it regularly.
Second, the data on these reports is inconsistant and not reliable due to the leaks. It looks like you have an auto machine that is capping out almost every night at 20 cm while at the same time your leaks are in the 40 L/m range.
What I would recommend:
Make sure the machine is configured for your mask so that the leak charts are accurate, then concentrate on getting the leaks as close to 0 as possible, once you can do that consistantly, then you can look at the data confidently and try to make an educated decision about your therapy.
Think of it this way, once the leaks are under control and the therapy is going into your lungs, instead of your bedroom, that you might be able to lower your pressure from 20 cm a night to something more managable. If you need help with resolving leaks, please search the forum or don't hesitate to ask.
