Hello all,
My CPAP therapy is off to a bit of a rough start. I tried to use the Mirage Micro mask. After two nights the bridge of my nose was swollen, tender, red, and breaking out. I figured either the mask was too small or I was having a limited allergic reaction with mask too small being the most likely option. So I went to CPAP.com and entered my measurement to see which mask size I should be wearing. The results eliminated all nasal masks as less than ideal for my face and gave me a list of mostly nasal pillows and full face masks. Next I went to the Resmed and Respironics sites and downloaded their cut-out templates. The templates agree with CPAP.com that their nasal mask will not fit me. So, this morning I switched to the Swift LT nasal pillow as that is what my DME had in stock. From what I've read I'm a little apprehensive about the Swift LT so I'll be heading to Target after work to buy pantyhose and Lansinoh breast cream to implement some of the tips I've read here. Not things I'd normally (read ever) buy, but if helps me implement my CPAP treatment successfully then I'll man up and buy breast cream and pantyhose! The one bright spot is that my DME took back the mask with no problems. He told me I have a two week period to return any Resmed mask I get from them. So far this DME has been great. The S8 Autoset II is the default machine they give out, Resmed mask return/exchange with no hassle or fee, and they will order other brands of mask if I want them (but no exchange feature for non Resmed masks).

No nasal style masks will fit me?
Re: No nasal style masks will fit me?
Don't buy pantyhose. You need ladies' tights. See viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36928&p=322402#p322402 .Silence wrote: ........ I'll be heading to Target after work to buy pantyhose .........
Notice those are ladies' tights in the photos. They are made out of a soft, lightweight, moisture-wicking nylon. Very comfortable and hardly noticeable in bed.

Re: No nasal style masks will fit me?
congrats and kudos for hanging in there.
I was in the same boat; the nasal mask was making me bleed from between the eyes. after a few nights I cringed at the thought of going to bed. I wore the mask for the minimum to maintain compliance and took it off as quick as I could.
after a few days I went back to my DME and got nasal pillows and they have been so much better. I then added a chin strap to the mix to try and control mouth leakage.
Its an ongoing process finding the right settings and adjustments, but hang in there!

Rooster, I was confused about that, but I ran a search and I thought that I read other folks mentioning hose. Also, those look like running tights which are made for both men and women. The restriction to ladies' tights and that they are nylon had me thinking hose again. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I can be a little less embarrassed in the checkout line now.
Re: No nasal style masks will fit me?
Me either. Finally, after much resistance, I tried the Nasal Aire II, and I haven't looked back. It's counterintuitive that shoving something up your nose can be MORE comfortable, MORE stable, and LESS LEAKY, but it's a fact for me.
PM me if you're interested in trying this mask for free before buying it. You can read more about it in the links below in my signature block.
Good luck!!!!!!

Re: No nasal style masks will fit me?
You know, I had similar problems with nasal masks. My nose is just too sensitive to handle them. Then I found the Comfortcurve Nasal Mask from Respironics. It fits below the nose -- not in it. It took a night or two for me to get the gear adjusted right, but I've never looked back. It's is a terrific relief from the shifting and chafing and irritation I had before. The headgear is a little weird. I rigged mine to run the dual host over the top of the gear and fastened them with velcro straps. Not needed if you're a back sleeper, but I toss and turn a lot.
Hope this idea helps.

Now I am a little confused. These are not running tights. They are fashion or sometimes dancing. The important things are they must feel soft and light and wick moisture (nylon will wick sweat). They are just the most common ladies' tights and very inexpensive.Silence wrote:rooster wrote:Don't buy pantyhose. You need ladies' tights. nasal masks should be worn high up on face, until it contacts the bottom of nose, also carefully adjust the top part where it presses against the forehead
