Air coming from my hose?
Air coming from my hose?
When I'm wearing my mask, I can feel air coming out of the hose where it connects to the connection piece on my mask. However, with the mask off and the air flowing, I can't feel any air coming out from the hose. It all comes out through the mask. I'm worried that I'm losing precious air pressure. Any idea if I have a problem?
Re: Air coming from my hose?
My tech told me to feel around all the connections, around my mask, and around the silicon-rubber ends of the hoses for air flow. Pinholes can be microscopic and yes, they reduce pressure, or so I was taught. When the pressure builds up inside your mask, any pinholes will leak. I have duplicate hoses and now duplicate pillow supports in case the ones I'm using develop leaks.

Sounds like a job for Red Green.

Are you sure that you are feeling air exiting through the designed-in vent?
All masks are designed to leak a set amount of air to avoid carbon dioxide buildup inside the mask. Some masks have the vent close to the hose connection point.
So which mask do you have.

Re: Air coming from my hose?
Are you possibly talking about an Ultra Mirage mask? The elbow connection to the face plate is fiddly and you will feel or hear some air coming from there, but unless you suddenly hear much larger swooshes (in which case it's broken), I wouldn't worry.

my mask leaks on the joints, I found saran wrap works great for sealing leaky joints.

Re: Air coming from my hose?
This mask has a leak tendency (as the Activa but less) where the elbow joins the mask. Remove the elbow and wrap around the end with teflon plumber tape before reinserting it in the mask. That is a definite cure.unclematt wrote:It's a ResMed Ultra Mirage II

Re: Air coming from my hose?
The Ultra Mirage II vents through holes in the elbow, with the airflow redirected in the direction of the tubing by a snap-on cover. Such venting is normal, expected and necessary. This is how air from your exhaled breaths is flushed out of the mask. With the mask off your face, no venting flow would be expected. All that you have described sounds normal. You should be able to "click off" the elbow cover to see the vent holes, where the airflow is coming from.
This mask is NOTHING like the Activa.

Re: Air coming from my hose?
Thanks Velbor, that's exactly the case. I cannot feel any air "leak" until I put the mask on. OK, it sounds normal.
