Blocked vent
Blocked vent
This is getting frustrating. I use a cover over my hose. Not sure if that is the problem or not, but... Three times I have woken up to find the hose flipped up and covering the air vent on my mask. Gah! Not sure what I can do about it since it is happening in my sleep.
Re: Blocked vent
Tie or tape the hose cover where you want it to stay, A slip tie works good, just cut it's tail off, or tape works may have to be redone sometimes. JIm

Re: Blocked vent
Personally, I actually prefer my hose to go up over the top of my head and over the back of my headboard. I find it keeps it out of my way better. I've never noticed too much of a difference in the airflow out of the vents, but I also don't use a hose cover.
Would it work if you just moved the cover down the hose a bit so that you have bare hose for the length that it takes to get past the vent holes? If you prefer to keep it down, maybe clips like these (or a homemade alternative) would help? https://www.cpap.com/productpage/cpap-hose-clip.html

There is no headboard and I don't understand what that clip is supposed to clip to. One person said the sheet. Why would you clip it to the sheet?

Re: Blocked vent
Well, the clip goes where it needs to hold the hose where it works best for you. While you use a different mask, I suggest looking at this video: cpap-video/g100v101/OptiLife-Tube-Manag ... tions.html for some ideas.
I used for option 1 and option 2 in the past. And, with masks other than the OptiLife that I first started with.

Thanks. Not sure any of those options would work for me though.TheDreamer wrote:Well, the clip goes where it needs to hold the hose where it works best for you. While you use a different mask, I suggest looking at this video: cpap-video/g100v101/OptiLife-Tube-Manag ... tions.html for some ideas.

Re: Blocked vent
Consider using a longer hose. 10 foot hoses are available on the website. I use a 12 foot hose-- first 6 feet brings hose from machine, behind nightstand to head end of bed (no headboard). Second 6 feet is the Respironics performance tubing. This tubing is remarkably flexible. I have a felt cover over both sections to prevent rainout. Although I can only set my IntelliPAP autoadjust to 6 or 10 feet hose length, an extended study I have been doing shows very little difference between a 6 foot hose (and machine in a very awkward spot) and a 12 foot hose. I will post what I found when the study concludes probably next week.Juliebove wrote: Thanks. Not sure any of those options would work for me though.
In any case, the tubing length and flexibility makes it such that I can route the tubing below my face. I actually fall asleep half holding the tubing. So as I move around, the tubing has enough length, slack and flexibility that I can hardly tell it is there.
The Quattro I formerly used and the Hybrid both have vents on the top of the mask. Routing the hose up over my head would result in the hose being in front of the vents. This greatly increases the 'noise' the mask makes. When I have everything just right, the system is so quiet I can still hear the lions roar next door, or rain on the roof.
Lions can and do snore....
Re: Blocked vent
In my case the few times that my vent is blocked is when there is too much light in the room like from the CPAP machine when I turn over and tried to block the light and ended up blocking the vents. So I just make sure that there is no glowing lights in my field of vision in any sleeping position and with other devices like battery chargers.
Re: Blocked vent
use a rubber band to hold the hose cover where you want it---
Re: Blocked vent
Hmmm... My machine is on a little table behind the bed. Doesn't seem like the hose is too short but maybe. Can't get a longer hose now though because I just got a new 6 foot one.timbalionguy wrote:Consider using a longer hose. 10 foot hoses are available on the website. Re: Blocked vent
This is the hose itself blocking the vent so your situation doesn't seem to apply.john5757 wrote:In my case the few times that my vent is blocked is when there is too much light in the room like from the CPAP machine when I turn over and tried to block the light and ended up blocking the vents. Re: Blocked vent
Why would I need to do that? The hose cover has Velcro on it. The problem is not the hose cover but the hose itself. It is flipping up and covering the vent. If the cover weren't on it, then perhaps it wouldn't cover the vent. Anyway... I've been told to get some Teflon tape. Now I just have to find it. Target doesn't sell it.sleepie wrote:use a rubber band to hold the hose cover where you want it---

Re: Blocked vent
Do you still have the old hose? You can get a coupler to make a 12 foot hose from 2 6 foot ones.Juliebove wrote:Can't get a longer hose now though because I just got a new 6 foot one.

I have both hoses. Haven't put the new one on. Not sure when I will. Just figured I should get one while it was free. My insurance is such that the year starts over again in Oct. and then things won't be free.TheDreamer wrote:Do you still have the old hose? I really don't think it is a matter of the hose being too short though. The machine is located just behind my head. I don't want to have to fight a super long hose draping all over the bed and me!
