Nose pillows wont stay in
I have been on cpap now for 6 months. I am still not totally adjusted to it. I have good nights and bad. I am using the Resmed Liberty and the problem I am having is the nose pillows wont stop leaking and it is driving me crazy. I replaced my headgear thinking it was too stretched out, however it wasnt the problem. Any body else have this problem.

Have a look at the "ladies tights fix" viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36928&p=322402#p322402 . I use it every night on my Hybrid which is similar to the Liberty.

I guess I would first check that you are using the right sized pillows. Have you tried using the Laniosh cream to help them seal (and keep your nares comfy)? I use the swift LT nasal pillows along with the cream and have almost no leaks, in fact once I got the right size, I don't even know I'm wearing nasal pillows everything is so comfy. My DME also suggested to turn the machine on and then "fit" the pillows while air is moving through them.

[quote="brucelegs"] Laniosh cream to help them seal (and keep your nares comfy)?
I won't go one night without Lansinoh cream!
You will find it at the Baby's Department -
Also called 'Nipple cream' but excellent
for lips, cracked skin etc. Very expensive
but one only uses a tiny bit. It is sticky
that's why it helps to seal one's pillows.

Re: Nose pillows wont stay in
Maybe, it's a question of mask design, goofyfever. I noticed the same thing with my Mirage Liberty. It was like the pillows were trying to pry themselves up and out of my nostrils. What I realized is that the angle of the mouth part of the mask was affected by my retrognathic lower jaw. (My lower jaw is much shorter than my upper) Anyhow, to get the lower part of the mouth part to fit, I was pulling it in against my chin. This tended to create a lever effect, where the upper part of the mask was being levered away from my face. Even though I could tighten the mask to get the upper part of the mouth to stay against my lip, it still changed the angle that the pillows were making to my nostrils.
I tried changing pillow sizes, but it didn't really help. I went back to a regular nasal pillow, and added a chinstrap to take care of my mouth issues.

Why does everyone else post cutesy avatars, and I'm the only one who posts a picture of myself?
Re: Nose pillows wont stay in
I have not tried the Liberty but I am trying the Innomed Hybrid (trial on hold till I get smaller nasal pillows) and I discovered that by adjusting the placement of the head gear that the pillows stayed in very comfortably and also relieved the issues I had with bottom strap causing neck pain.
I believe this is the way the Hybrid headgear is supposed to be placed.

But I changed it so that the top headgear is moved much more forward and the bottom straps are at more of an angle. Very similar to this placement but top of head gear still a bit more forward on the top of the head.

I found that this placement completely resolved the issues I had with the nasal pillows not wanting to stay in. Seems like the angle of the straps works better to seal and I need very little tightening. In fact the whole thing was very loose and very comfortable this way. When I tried it the "standard" way it was painful and leaked like crazy and the pillows would pop out no matter which height I chose.
I don't know if the Liberty gear will allow this much playing with head gear placement though.

Re: Nose pillows wont stay in
I could never get pillows masks to stay in place. I must have tried them all. I finally tried the Nasal Aire II, prongs style mask, and it has stayed in place so well for me, that I won't try any other mask.
PM me if you would like to try this mask for free before buying one. More information is available in the links below in my signature block.
Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.
