plr66,

I started out using Chapstick on my nares, and then recalled that it was a petroleum product. I switched to using Burt's Bees Lip Balm (beeswax instead of petroleum). It works just as well. FWIW.

I've never had any trouble with Chap Stick, but I do know that Burt's Bees lip balm burns when I use it on my lips, so as for me I won't try it. I'll check on the ingredients though and let you know.

O.
Ozij, I tried everything,( increased humidifier and pressure settings, to stop this mouth opening ! (looking for the cause)
Went to bed last night, had tape ready for my mouth and I was sure I was going to solve this problem.
Oh, no I wasn't that lucky. The tape was useless. It just lifted up - that means I haven't got the right tape.
So, now it is off to the shops again this morning. You ask them for tape suitable to close your mouth for a whole night and they think you're an Alien ! Nevermind, when hubby gets up this morning, I'm sure he will know where we can go for tape.
I think we must try paint shops. The first 4½ hours of sleep is beautiful but then I'm sort or half asleep half awake because of this dry mouth.
(Just a question, guys....opening one's mouth when you sleep, isn't it sort of a 'natural' occurance in human beings ? ? ?)
I mean - all muscles relax so the mouth falls open - ? -
I was hoping not to have to need tape - but, Okay I'm not alone - I'll join the 'mouth taped, greased nares, hoseheaded group!
We have all some issues to make a success of this therapy and in my heart I feel happy and fortunate having this equipment to help with sleep apnae. It is my own fault that I get leaks - well, I'm not awake when I sleep !?! but I know what I do to cause these leaks - I like to put my face (and nose) (when I sleep) right in my pillow - nasty habbit ! then the pillows shift and there comes the leaks ! oh my ! No, I won't try packaging tape ? , will ask for 3M or blue painters (sensitive ares) tape - the problem is, over here in South Africa some product have different names.
Lots of thanx to all cpaptalk members that take the time to answer all our questions. God bless you all !

You're absolutely right, Chris. I'm one of the people who received a sample from you. (Thanks again; that was nice of you!) My apologies for not remembering the name of the product when Marietjie mentioned Purelan earlier in the thread. I agree, it's pretty much the same as Lansinoh, and it worked well for me.
I have looked into manufacturing/repackaging lanolin cream to exclusively be marketed for CPAP users (no more embarrassing trips to the baby section!), but the overall cost was far greater than simply buying "nipple cream". Working for a pharmacy, I can buy pure lanolin in great bulk.. but there's no way I could match the price of the nipple cream peddlers! Given that I have barely put a dent in the small tube I have over the past 3 months, it just wasn't a lucrative market at all.
Sorry things didn't work out for you there.

Marietjie, just go to the paint dept of any discount store like WalMart, and look for the 2" wide blue tape for delicate surfaces. In the USA, I think the two main brands are Scotch and 3M and the rolls are about 4" across. I'd suggest that you probably might better keep the part about taping someone's mouth to yourself, lest you have law enforcement called to follow you for awhile!! Also be sure to wash your face & dry thoroughly before applying the tape. Usually a 4-5" strip is sufficient, with the ends tabbed for removal. Remove very slowly, flat against itself, to avoid pulling off skin.
