Anyone have an S8 Escape series II?

Post by Muse-Inc » Thu Jun 18, 2009 10:48 pm

Do you like it? Thanks. It has EPR and is data capable (or so states ResMed on their site)...might be right for me as it can use the 3i HH from my current Escape.

As far as I know, the ResMed Escape II does not provide any useful data. Just hours of use ("compliance.")

You'd need at least the Elite (I'd get the Elite II - quieter) for useful data like AHI and leak info.

My list of machines that record "full data" (AHI and leak info) and those that don't -- as of October 2008:

DME might not understand what "Full data" is.
viewtopic.php?p=344265#p344265

I went to the ResMed site to see what was written about the two machines:

Escape II
Usage-based compliance download for accurate patient monitoring

Elite II
Comprehensive efficacy and usage data helps you monitor critical trends

The words I emphasized in bold red are the key to what kind of data to expect from those two machines.

Usage-based compliance refers to just keeping track of how many hours the machine is being used.

Efficacy data refers to information about how the treatment is actually going...the AHI and leak data.

Thanks Rested Gal! This is one confusing area that's for sure and since I've been having events, my brain just isn't up to easily making sense of all this *G*.

I did call ResMed Cust Srv and suggest they add "user compliance" and "efficacy" to their Escape and Elite web page descriptions because the differnce between these 2 is not obvious (esp when the video of patient monitoring for each one is the same video). I think it fell on deaf ears *sigh* as the rep just couldn't seem to understand that if someone has to call them to clarify info...their information is confusing (one of pet peeves).

I am a new user and have the S8 AutoSet II. I have no other experience (except for a mask fitting with an unknown model Respironics) but find my machine to be extremely quiet -- much quieter, especially on exhalation, than whatever Respironics machine I was fitted with.

The EasyBreathe feature makes exhalation comfortable even without EPR. I have not yet tried to turn EPR on. I read somewhere that the Australian verision (the S8 AutoSet Spirit II), which was released first, does not even have EPR. EPR was supposedly added to the US version mostly for marketing reasons, to be competitive with Respironics C-Flex and A-Flex, more than out of functional needs.

I wonder if anyone here has experienced both an original S8 machine with EPR vs an S8 II with EasyBreathe and EPR.

(And just to keep things interesting, the S9 series is due out later this year.)

Hi and welcome;

I have the Ellite II with EPR and the 4I humidifier. Very quite and it does give you AI, HI, AHI, Leak, Pressure, and Compliance data. As far as the EPR goes, I like it, but after 2 months I have almost shut it off. It's great if you are on high pressure like me at 17, at least your head isn't blown off, and helps you inhale and exhale. If your medical covers it, go for it. In Canada it was a $350 option. I love the machine and would recommend it.

I got the Escape ll 2 weeks ago. The machine did nicely for therapy but the data it stored was basically showing how many times it was used and for how long. After reading some posts on this site, I exchanged my Escape ll for the Elite ll. This machine is just like the Escape ll for therapy but holds so much more data that is worthwhile. When I exchanged the machine, I spoke to the person at the supply store, (and she said that they try to sell you the "Entry level" machine). Since I had it for 1 1/2 weeks I got a full exchange and they even gave me an extra mask for no charge.

If you can, get the Elite ll

Because they share the same insurance code, the DME collects the same amount from the insurance company if they supply a basic CPAP, a fully-data-capable CPAP or even an APAP. So of course the DMEs want to supply the entry-level machine and keep more money for themselves.
