Mirage Quattro redesign?

Post by subii » Thu Jun 18, 2009 11:01 pm

Did Resmed redesign the elbow on the Quattro FFM to be non removable?

I just received a new Quattro FFM from my local supplier. The mask is amazing for seal and fit. My first time using it was probably the best nights sleep that I have had in the past six months. My only complaint was a very loud squeak from the elbow that woke me up several times.

I tried to remove the elbow for cleaning but it appears to be permanently attached to the mask. The instructions that came with the mask show an elbow with six tabs that connect it to the mask body. The unit I received does not have tabs. I will try to post pictures tomorrow.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

This is my first post on cpaptalk. I searched but couldn't find any information about this redesign, nor did I find any information in the documents that came with the mask.

The older Quattro masks leaked at the elbow and were repaired by using Teflon tape on the elbow. Always seemed funny because the ResMed Ultra Mirage elbow doesn't leak and is removable for cleaning. The UMFF elbow has a plastic keeper on the inside of the elbow fitting to the mask. Keep us posted.

Hello & Welcome, subii! Glad you found this forum—SO much useful info and everyone here is so willing to help!

You're lucky to have found this forum as you begin CPAP--took me almost year before I found this place and, with the help of folks here, got my CPAP therapy working as it should. Sorry, I don't know about the Quattro redesign--I have an older Quattro that I don't use because it hurts the bridge of my nose, no matter how I adjust it. I prefer the Ultra Mirage FFM. Good luck, and glad you're here!

I picked up a new quattro last week and first thing I did (after washing) was to pop off the elbow to wrap with teflon tape. I noticed that they redesigned the elbow, but it is still removable (with a bit of effort...pull up on the end of the elbow) and still needs to be taped to stop leaking. The headgear is also a bit smaller and less 'stretchy'. It all feels a little cheaper, but performs better than ever.
When I woke up this morning my girlfriend asked me, 'Did you sleep good?' I said 'No, I made a few mistakes.'

To remove the elbow, grasp the end of it and pull - it's a bit counter-intuitive because it applies the force at an angle - something you wouldn't want to do with a lot of other things. But it should snap right off when you do that.
