New to CPAP - ResMed ESCAPE ll clinical manual

Post by dad1717 » Tue Jun 09, 2009 5:35 pm

I'm new to this CPAP stuff ( 5th night now) and I feel so much better during the days already! I have the ResMed ESCAPE ll w/ H4i heated humidifier and the Mirage Micro nasal mask. I can not belive the difference these machines can make! The first night was the worst -- I did not have the mask fitted properly but now I peacefully sleep during the nights. Can someone tell me if there is a clinical manual for this machine. I know how to access the menu but just want to know what this machine can do and what some other settings are for.

The Escape can't do diddley-squat for you besides provide excellent therapy if you were correctly titrated, which it sounds like you quite likely were since you are doing so good after only 4 nights, and provide proof for your local DME supplier to provide to your insurance for payment if needed.

The Escape is NOT fully data capable, it is capable of compliance data only which is of absolutely no value to you or your doctor if you do run into problems. Therefore its a waste of time to look for the Clinicians Manual, it isn't worth the effort.

CONGRATULATIONS on these 4 good nights tho! Like I said the Escape is quite capable of providing excellent therapy. Just not capable of producing any data of any value to you or your doctor if it is needed.

Dad, it can be a bit of a hassle but if would really prefer to have a fully data capable CPAP so you can keep track of your data yourself, such as the Resmed S8 Elite II, take the Escape back to your local DME supplier and tell them it is NOT acceptble to you, that you want the Elite. They use the same integrated humidifer, etc. The only thing that needs to be exchanged is the Escape for the Elite. The Elite doesn't provide any better therapy - BUT - that full data capability CAN provide good strong clues to any problems you may encounter AND the possibly cause w/acclimating to CPAP therapy.

Most insurance companies contract w/local DME suppliers for one set price by HCPCS code NOT by brand and model. Both the Escape and the Elite are HCPCS code e0601. The Elite does cost the supplier more than the Escape does so of course they prefer to provide the Escape. On the other hand this is YOUR health, YOUR therapy and YOU are paying for the equipment - whether thru insurance or ouf of pocket is immaterial. W/o YOU there is no sale.

Call your insurance company and ask them what local DME suppliers they are contracted with. Hopefully you will have the option of more than one as that will give you more bargaining/negotiating room IF you decide to push for the Elite.

Just got an exchange from the Escape ll for an Elite ll. No problem at all since I've had the Escape for less than 2 weeks. The lady at the supply store that helped me before asked me why, and I was upfront with her and told her that the Elite ll had more options and she agreed. She told me that it would be her preference to start people on the Elite ll. I guess you have to ask. Anyway, she also GAVE me a full face mask in addition to the nasal mask I already have!

So if anyone has a link to the CLINICAL manual to this machine, I would be happy if you could PM me.

I have had the ResMed Escape S8 with heated humidifier for a couple of weeks and am having trouble getting the humidifier to stay on. I took it back to the supplier and of course it worked great, back home and had to fiddle with it, pushing the humidifier in after it is latched to get the power light to come on.

It seems to be a mickey mouse way of getting power the the humidifier.

Does any one else have this problem?

Nope. You have a defective machine..might be the Escape or might be the humidifier.
