Tonsilectomy and sleep apnea questions
Tonsilectomy and sleep apnea questions
I recently was diagnosid with sleep apnea November 2008 got into the grove of the whole mask thing was doing well-was titrated at a 9. A week ago I had a tonsilectomy at the age of 45 for other reasons than the apnea. Since then of course I have been half off the cpap and half off, when I am on it since the surgery my AHI and HPI have rose from a 3.2 to the 15 range-I have concerns about the difference and figure its because I may need a new titration rate -any ideas?

You present results (post-surgery & before full healing) are irrelevant to decision making, for the following reasons:
- Swelling post surgery (if that happens)
- Sleep disrupted by pain, which may cause lots of tossing and turning - registered by the machine as apneas and hypopneas
- Anti pain medication
- The fact that you're using the cpap off and on - short time periods will blow up an AHI for mathematical reasons -- nothing to do with the therapy itself.
