I just figured out how to change my pressure

Post by frustratedmary » Sat Jun 13, 2009 8:28 pm

My sleep doc wanted me to have another overnight study. I'm not sleeping more than 2 houors at a tin=me and my pressure is only straight cpap. A few people on the forum have thought that pressure was too low. My doc won't change it until I have another study. Last one was 6 weeks ago. That was my titration.I didn't feel I slept any length of time during the study. So I Took my pressure up to 6 for tonight. I hope this was a good idea. I figure it couldn't hurt. Any thoughts?

The proof of the pudding is in the eating - how did you sleep?

Ditto ozij. If you sleep well and feel better, then you are on the right path.

And congratulations on taking a positive step rather than waiting for someone else to handle it for you, we all know doctors should be the 'expert' in these matters, but they're often not. Which is fair enough I guess, they don't live and breathe it, so to speak, like we do.

Like ozij, would love to know how you go.

Seems ridiculous that the DRs make you feel like THEY should be in control of things. Sometimes I'm convinced it's all about $$$ with them. It's also sad to say but I think alot of them fear some sort of lawsuit. Only YOU can know how you feel. If turning up the pressure works, then by all means go for it.

Id say bump your pressure like you did and track Sleep hours and any numbers you can, as well as pay attention to how you feel with change in pressure. I think your on the right track!

A quick way to bump pressure without having to tinker with the settings is to change the altitude setting. Going up one range is about 1.5 cm for me.

This might be more sneaky way to do it to avoid any flak from your doctor/DME if they play Big Brother to your data. But if you find it works out, then change it directly.

What was the pressure before?

6cm is really nothing so if it was less, my thought is the doc is stealing your money.

well I slept with my 6 last night. I forgot to say my level was 5 before. I think it was a little better. I slept in 2 hour intervals. I was able to go back to sleep pretty quickly. I think I'll try it on 6 a few more nights, then maybe a little higher and see if I can get more sleep in a row. I do think my doc wants more $$$. Thanks for all your thoughts.

How was the leak rate on your Swift LT? Did the larger pillow help?

I played with mine. If it feels like it is blowing your head off, it's to high. If it feels like someone has a pillow on your face, it's to low. When It's just right, it will feel right, you'll sleep better and feel better. I just had my 3 sleep study thursday night. With all the crap they put on you, it's a wonder you can fall asleep at all.
