Oral device

Anyone have any experience using the Breath-mate oral device? I bought one to use as a way to stop mouth breathing while using a nasal mask. Basically its a plastic shield that inserts between the lips and teeth to form a seal. It seems easy to remove and large enough not to be swallowed inadvertantly.

I currently tie some tights over my mouth, but dont tape, to act as a cue to keep my mouth shut. This works and my leak numbers for my mask are on the mark, but thought this might be a more legant and simpler solution.

I went to the site and looked at it. It's not that expensive, so it wouldn't be a big risk to try it. If anyone here has actually used it, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

From what i have seen in some patients, is that the Oral Devices (like surgery) are hit and miss.

They work for some people but not for everyone.

I think if the price is low enough give it a shot, especially if your significant other starts to call you Darth LOL

I might give it a shot, does it come in different sizes? It looks a little small for my big mouth

I haven't checked out that one specifically, but a lot of them and Boil and Chomp.

The more expensive ones have to be created from a dental mold.

This is not a mouthpiece this is an oval, extremely flexible disk. I believe the original intent is to stop mouth breathing, encourage saliva development to help acid reflux, and a slight jaw adjustment (which i dont see how it works becasue the flexibility of the disk). I assume the original intent of the device would be beneficial for most cpap users as well.

I thought it would be a good solution to use for mouth breathers rather than taping, and I found this device after reading about the modifications of the mouth-breathing cpap mask some forum users were making as an alternative to taping. That mask uses a similar concept to force breathing through the opening and has a shield between the teeth and lips, and a similar sized pice on the outside to hold in place.

I'll register and post the link so everyone understands what I am talking about. This is not a solution to apnea but rather just to stop mouth breathing without an obtrusive mouthpiece of taping.
