Cpap or Bipap ?? Your opinion please

Post by NEEDSTOSLEEP » Tue Jun 02, 2009 7:01 pm

I have a pressure of 20 , yes that's right a 20 on a cpap machine. I'm a relative newbie & want to purchase a machine. Will I be alright with a cpap, even tho I'm having problems? or should I be looking at a bipap?

Is this self-pay? Cuz if insurance diven, you may not have any choice.

Bi-pap for a couple reasons -
1. You never want to run anything at its designed limit. It will shorten its life.
2. At 20cm, you are likely to need exhale relief. No better exhale relief than a bi-pap.

Whatever you get, I think it needs to be an auto. Definitely gonna want data, software, and a reader.

Bipap or Vpap without a doubt.
Both will do the job - try each 1st if you can as at that pressure blower noise may be a big factor in choice of machine.

Good luck

I'm about six weeks into therapy, also with a pressure of 20 and switched about 3 weeks ago to a bi-pap. It is a MAJOR improvement over the CPAP. Definitely switch.

Hey Everybody thanks for all the advice. All those newbies out there are so informed, I 've spent countless hours at this & still don't understand alot.

Now, my dilemma I have the chance to buy a cpap just like I have from a private party that's only been used a week. It's a reasonable price but if a bipap or vpap (whatever those are?) are what I really need than am I wasting the $$$$$$

Your Resmed Vantage with EPR (when used in cpap mode) does afford some relief but a Bilevel (Vpap Bipap) is a far better bet as you have more tuning options.

I would avoid a straight cpap if you can - just go for a Bipap/Vpap bilevel machine (or a Sandman bilevel etc: )

These are your $s - spend them wisely
