Getting ready for my first night...
Picked up my CPAP this afternoon from my DME. I had to work with them and my Doctor to get the machine I wanted (S8 Elite II). I have the advanced data setting turned on so that I can see what happens... So I am ready to start on my way to a better night sleep!
Searching through the CPAPtalk has been a great help... My DME was going to set me up with a real basic machine, but based on what I learned hear, I made sure I got a data capable machine.
I am trying a different mask than what was use for my titration. The mask they used was a nasal mask... we did not get along very well. But, tonight I am trying a Swift LT. I really like how it fits and feels based on the setup at my DME.
So... Hoping things go well tonight!

Best of luck to you! Just make sure to go to bed when you are tired; otherwise you will be up all night!
Re: Getting ready for my first night...
Good going, Buzz, for getting the machine with data that you need!
Regarding your Swift LT: Do lie down well before bedtime to try your mask with the machine on, and learn to settle it into place with little nudges or pulls to the pillows, and adjustments to the straps. You should achieve a stream of air into your nose that does not feel or sound constricted. This is not difficult if you allow yourself some patient time to experiment. Lie on your side and shift your "wedging" of the mask against the pillow in normal sleeping positions to be sure it holds its seal with no leaks at all. This mask should not be tight to work well. A lot of us find that the top strap can be actually loose, while the back strap needs to be close/snug, but not at all tight. If you likely find that you blow air out of your mouth at night, keep in mind that many of us require the mouth taping with nasal pillow masks and search that subject here. Just some un-asked-for suggestions to try to be of help. All the best, and keep coming back with whatever questions you have!

Excellent cpap you got . I to have an elite II and really like it .My only advise is don't be a stranger to this forum. There is lots and lots of helpful people here that have mutch cpap experience to draw from . Best of luck. As you encounter questions be sure to post . They will all be answered. Cpap Talk is Great
Re: Getting ready for my first night...
good luck
i like the swift lt a lot, try during the day to wear it with your machine on and lie on your side so you can get used to it in different positions without it leaking. when i first started using cpap, the sleep lab had basically told me id have to sleep on my back from now on, after finding the swift lt, i can now sleep however i like. but it did take learning how to fold the corner of the pillow to hold my mask just right.
again good luck and i hope you have the best sleep of your life !!!

This is very, very important - have a test or two until you are comfortable with your equipment !
Good luck & sweet dreams

Re: Getting ready for my first night... Results!
First night went ok... I think I had the mask on too tight, I woke up a couple of time with the mask feeling like it is boring a hole into my head. So I am going to work on loosing it up a bit tonight. My numbers of the menu are:
Leaks - 0
AHI - 3.2
AI - 0
HI - 3.2
At 5cm.
This fits the results of my sleep study... no apnea with almost 300 hyponeas. My AHI was just over 70.
Question about how the machine works... EPR is turned off and so is ramp (although I may turn ramp on tonight). When I first turned on the machine, I was breathing against a constant stream. But after awhile, it seems like it learned my breathing pattern and regulated the pressure based on my breathing pattern. Is this standard behavior for a CPAP? I thought that was what EPR did.
Thanks,
buzz

Re: Getting ready for my first night... Results!
Actually it's not the machine learning and adjusting, it's your body. Amazing things these bodies of ours. 5cm is a pretty low pressure. I can't imagine needing a ramp at that pressure. I don't even use ramp at my pressure of 11.5 and I'm used to it now. But if it makes it easier for you that's what it's there for.Guest wrote:First night went ok... Re: Getting ready for my first night...
I had the same thought about ramp also... not sure what it would do with such a low setting. But, I am curious about what it would do...

Re: Getting ready for my first night...
If you do ramp with that low of a pressure, you will feel like you are suffocating. I have the same mask and even 5 was too low for me. I tried 6 and that was too high. 5.5 was just right. Now it feels like nothing and I upped it to 6 because it did feel like nothing!
