M Whisper Cap Question

So, would you say it is worth the cost or not to reduce the sound of the machine?

Here's my update on the WhisperCap. We've always had it since Day 1, but we stopped using the Flex some time ago because it bothered my hubby's breathing pattern and we did notice that it stopped making that ICU sound(Babette's description). Well, last night because of this post, I also removed the Cap, didn't seem to make any difference in sound level but more interesting, hubby had one of his better nights, leak rate normal, AHI=0.9 and seemed to be breathing quieter and less restlessness. So go figure?? Is it really possible that the difference was that missing little plastic box? I'd sure like to know, but so far we'll keep it off for now.

I found no difference with or without it....

Though I was thinking now that C-Flex is off, if it would make any difference....but I guess I'll just continue to leave it off.

I used an M-Series auto without the whisper cap for about a month, and then purchased one... It didn't seem to affect any of the readings, they were consistent before and after the cap was put on.

The cap DOES reduce some of the noise, but only a few db's.. so is that worth $15 bucks? Well.. my wife complains less about the noise now, so maybe? It's not going to be a night/day difference, but it does make a difference in sound level. I feel confident using it as it's an official accessory from the manufacturer, and while using the machine it doesn't sound like it's working any harder with the cap on vs. without, so I can't imagine the smaller hole being an issue.

I would recommend it if you really feel you're going to benefit from a slightly lower noise level.. but it will do nothing for the sound of the motor changing pitch or the darth vader-ish breathing sounds.. it's a bit better at quieting the hissing sound when the machine draws in air.. hope that makes sense.

I was lucky- even though the first 2 nights seemed endless, and I thought every breath would make me scream from listening to it AND the machine- by the third night,I did not hear the machine nor my own breathing at all, and neither did my hubby.I have slept through the noise ever since-no WhisperCap. Looking back,on my part I think that maybe it was due to my working for many years in a High-Risk OB Unit, where we had tons of medical machines making all sorts of racket-and even though it has been many years since I did that kind of nursing ,I guess my brain remembered those kinds of noises- it is the only thing I can think of that made for such a quick adjustment- for which I am very thankful. I am still working out a few kinks in other areas, but the noise level is not one of them. Good luck to you in deciding what to try, to help with your noise problem-I do think the white noise suggestion is a very good idea-this used to help me a lot when I worked nights-a fan in my case.

I have a quick question: I just noticed my whisper cap rattles when I shake it. The round opening at the back (air intake) is loose (just slightly). I sthis the same for everybody else? That is, are the intake tub and the whisper cap box 2 separate parts? Or is my whisper cap in need of a glue job

My whisper cap rattles as well ... it is brand new and never used ... so sounds like the design ...

Here's my update on the above post, sorry I should have updated sooner. Removing the Whisper Cap really does not make any difference in the stats, and we noticed that the Cap does make it a little quiter so it's been back on all these months. One thing I came upon by accident is when we stayed overnight at our son's house we forgot to bring the mouse pad that we usually keep underneath the machine so we used a small folded towel and it was even quieter.
