OT I'll show you my hills, if you show me yours

Post by carbonman » Sat May 16, 2009 4:08 pm

10hrs on the hose, AHI 1.0......yea, I feel good.
I had a great ride today.

Did the Valmont Loop. Out and back from my house to Boulder, around Valmont.
50.2miles 2:48' 2.48K' vertical
It was a chilly, gray morning. Rained most of the night.
Clouds were hanging low and made for some interesting pics.
Left the house in chilly 47F w/clouds, returned in 62F, partly sunny.

Hills-I live 2miles from the foothills.....so, I do most of my riding, in the foothills.
These are the hills that are the precursors to the mountains.

This is a profile of todays ride. It is very typical of what I ride around my house.

That's really great, Carbonman, that you are so fit, and that you enjoy biking so well! And that you enjoy yourself taking photos as well.

I just love nature. For years I was an avid "birder" (even recorded my sightings on software), traveling all over the US as well as The Tortugas off Florida and up to Churchill, Manitoba in the Arctic Tundra. It was lots of hiking and climbing . . . I miss it.

Joy

I don't have anything quite so breathtaking as the Rockies close by. We have some lovely "rolly" stuff, though (the better to "smoke" roadies--I'm a highracer recumbent guy).

A friend maintains a database of cue sheets, at http://www.kybikerides.org. In many cases, the listed rides have maps, cue sheets AND profiles. Personal favorites include: Boston-Munfordville-Boston century http://kybikerides.org/ridemaps/300.htm, Medora Century http://kybikerides.org/ridemaps/5510.htm, and any of the century loops out of Westport Park (Gizmo is a long-time friend, and the web master for kybikerides).

If you ever make it this far east, come ride with us!

Joy, don't they have birds and hiking trails and climbing in KY???
Just do it.

t-bone, I would love to come down there and ride.
Aside from the fact, it has incredible beauty of its own, there's oxygen.
How about some pics??

I don't typically take a camera along on my bike rides. I may have to change that a bit. My existing camera is a bit awkward for bike-borne use. When riding in our more scenic areas, I'm usually trying to keep up with Gizmo, on HIS recumbent.

The http://www.kybikerides.org site has LOTS of pictures that Gizmo has collected from his rides. Some have been provided by others in the club. Many are of riders rather than just of scenery, though, and finding the scenery ones can be time-consuming.

Another cycling friend hosts http://www.kywildflowers.info/, which has some closeup photos of, as one might assume, wildflowers found in Kentucky. It is, of course, more focused on close-up imagery, but is no less photogenic in nature (if you will pardon the multiple puns).

BRAVO on your bike escapades, I always enjoy your pix, the first one however looks like my cpap stats on some nights!
Just kidding, great shots, I'd show you mine, but living in Virgina Beach, there all floating shots on the beach or in the pool!
Life is not about the amount of breaths you take;
It's about the moments that take your breath away.

I drove my turbocharged Miata 160 miles today. Does that count? It WAS in the mountains.

I have 625 feet of ascension in my 22.5 miles. Kind of lame, but seems more impressive when I say 'its like a 62 story building'.

Some pics of the area

Wow, that's not much, but you work w/what you have.
Great pics. I have this vision on NJ from the opening shots of Soprano's.

Last year on a bike forum, someone in MN was asking how to train for the TripleByPass in Colo.
They said the biggest hill near them was an overpass on the interstate.
So, some wise@$$ Colorado guy suggested that they put a plastic bag over their head,
to simulate the altitude and ride back and forth over the overpass a few thousand times.

Keep the pics coming. Don't forget the camera as you head out the door.

I'm doing the lower Denver bike path loop today w/my riding partner.

Just do it!

Guy I work with is a long distance bike rider. 100 miles is usually a warm up for him. I prefer my excercise a bit more down to earth (on my treadmill ). He has been trying to complete a brevet series but life keeps getting in the way. There is a ride here called the Six Gap Century http://www.cyclenorthgeorgia.com/index. ... &Itemid=35 that he does. 11k thousand feet of vertical elevation which is a good bit considering Georgia isn't known for its mountains!

So many great rides, so little time.

Paradigm shift.....cycling is life, the rest is just details.
