Post by yawn » Fri Sep 02, 2005 8:02 pm

I hope everybody has a wonderful holiday week-end. I haven't been around much lately and I miss everybody. I just wanted to say Hi, have fun, and be safe!

Good to "see" you again, Amy. I wondered where you'd gone but figured life had just gotten busy; something I know about!

I'll second the motion and prayers are out to all the NO refugees that have no place to spend their long weekend. I just came home from Eastern Louisiana and it's a mess there

I've missed you too Amy. Do have a great time - 3 days of potential relaxation (are the kids going away ? )

Cheers

HI!!!
I started a new job about 4 weeks ago and I'm having trouble balancing working and being mother/wife/maid/chauffeur/maid....get the picture? By the time I get everything done, I"m just so darn tired I can't put together a coherent sentence. I have been reading different posts but have no brain cells to respond with. Last night I got 9 hrs. of sleep!!!! yet I feel like I didn't get any sleep. My daughter came home from college for her 1st visit. I've done 3 loads of her laundry, 2 loads of mine and all the ironing (after working out of course) and it's only 2:00 pm....no wonder I"m exhausted.... I decided I deserved a treat so I logged on here (how sad is that??? )

Congrats on the new job Amy. What are you doing? I am looking through the want ads too....not sure which direction to go even as far as hours. When you've been a sahm most of your life it takes some courage to jump into the work force. Its a treat for us that you logged on too...we missed you. My college aged sons live at home and do their own laundry...want me to send them over to show your daughter how to help out her Mom??? LOL.....of course they don't know how to put toilet paper on the holder when it runs out...they don't have the right hormones for that task I guess. Terry

Terry....my kids NEVER change the toilet paper roll. It's drives my hubby nuts. As for my daughter, she's been doing her own laundry since she was 12. I was just trying to be a good Mom on her 1st visit home.
My new job is a secretary at an elementary school. I LOVE it. The little kids are adorable!!!! My schedule works out great with my son...I can work and still be a Mom (a tired mom...but what else is new). I'll have the summers off too!! I've been trying to get a school secretary job for 5 years but it's really hard...lots of Moms want those jobs. I guess I really got lucky this time....

Sounds good sis. I was a school assistant secy when my youngest son entered kindergarten....It was so nice being able to be at school w/him popping in to say hello. It was a small school so it felt homey. I also had a job for a couple of years as a school nurse aid. Which means a "mommy nurse".... thats another option for you if you find office work isn't your favorite. The kids would come in if they needed some tlc or a bandaid from a scrape during recess, took meds or needed a break or to go home because they weren't feeling well. I kept their health records current and did some basic vision and hearing testing, etc....I really enjoyed that job while it lasted! T

I found the trick to get your kids/young adults (mine are 22, 19 and almost 13) to change the roll of toilet paper. Don't use one of the holders that have the roller that has to go in both ends (spring-loaded type). If you buy the type that has just a "C" that you only have to slide it onto the arm, they'll change it.
If it doesn't take more than a second to do and you can use one hand, they'll change it. The trick is getting them to use less so you don't have to change it so often and buy so much of it. If someone could tell me how to get them to slow down on the usage, I'd appreciate that.
Amy, we've been talking, so I'll just say it's nice to see you up on the message boards again. Hope you get some much needed rest this weekend. But with the whole crew around, it doesn't sound very promising. Better than not having time with them, though.

Part of my job is to "cover" for the nurse on Thursday mornings and all day Friday. I'm not a nurse but figured it wouldn't be any big deal...a few band-aids maybe a hug or two..how bad could it be. My first day covering for the nurse, I got 3 accident victims and a girl claiming to have chest pains...in a 2 hour period I dealt with 20 kids...I was so stressed out!!!! Can you imagine an 8 year old complaining of chest pains!! She said she had been in the Emergency Room over the week-end with the same pains. That was my baptism by fire...I've never had another day like that one (thank God). The little girl was fine by the way...Mom came and picked her up and then later came back for her little brother (same symptoms). Both were back in school the next day. I'm much calmer now when I'm the "nurse"...that 1st day really prepared me.

Have a happy Labor Day weekend.
I pray for those effected by Katrina especially those that need a cpap and have no electricity.

Keep your supply under lock-and-key and make them pay for their own! It works every time for anything: toilet paper, food, gas, etc.

LOL Bill...when I visit I'll be sure to bring my own tp! Lori...maybe you could declare a fast? I expect there'd be less going on in the bathroom that way....

Yes yawn, a school nurse's day can be challenging! We noticed that right around Halloween the kids were having accidents in droves and the clinic was full at recesses.......Still I loved it because I liked being that "away place" the kids could come to when they needed some tlc.

A suggestion for those who would like to contribute help to the victims of Katrina but don't have any "freed up money" to send. How about fasting for a few days and sending what you'd normally spend on groceries?
Terry

Terry,
Declare a fast at my house? There would be a mom-lynching if I did that. I have never in my life seen two young men eat so much. Maybe because they both work out every day (yes, every day) and burn up their calories? It kills me when they complain there's nothing to eat, so I go food shopping and spend a fortune and it's gone in 24 hours. I thank goodness my daughter, who will be 13 in November, slowed down her appetite. I guess her growth spurt finally stopped. At her age, she'll already 5' 6 1/2" tall but only weighs 105. Oh, to go back to those days...

By the way, your "additional comment" at the very bottom of your posts is beautiful. What a lovely thing to write. Glad you're doing so well.
