Encore Pro for $60 - is this a good price?
Item 260404798468 on eBay is showing the Encore Pro v1.8.49 (software only) with a buy it now price of $59.99 with free shipping from Boynton Beach Florida. I don't know if this is a good deal or not - this is for information only.

Jim,
I checked on that ad a couple of months ago.
It is not an original disk. I went back and asked if it was an original disk and never got a response.
Whomever, is selling copies ... could in fact be selling a copy of a free download from the internet.

I'm a bit slow this morning.
I just noticed that you do not have a Respironics machine.
Encore Pro only works with a Respironics data capable machine.
Hopefully someone can jump in here and guide you to something for your machine.

I appreciate your response; my post was as an FYI for those Respironics users who might be interested, not for my use. Your first response confirmed what had been my earlier suspicion.janp wrote: I just noticed that you do not have a Respironics machine.

It is not neccessarily true that just because they did not respond to your question they are copies. If you look at the feedback, there seem to be many satisifed buyers of the Encore software (maybe they got hold of a lot from a DME going out of business ). I don't know this person and do not vouch for this seller as I have never bought anything from them myself ... but just wanted to clarify that the seller's feedback does not seem to correspond with your opinion.janp wrote:JimW203 wrote:Item 260404798468 on eBay is showing the Encore Pro v1.8.49 (software only) with a buy it now price of $59.99 with free shipping from Boynton Beach Florida. Hi,
Actually ... I went back to the seller and specifically asked the question re "original".
When he/she did not answer my question, the assumption (at least to me) is that he/she preferred not to.
Why not clarify it to a prospective buyer?
The conclusion then is that it is not an original. Which is fine ... just be clear about what is being sold.
Plus, we're talking years since Respironics made the program unavailable to consumers ... I seriously doubt that there would be a supply of CDs hanging around.
Then there's the issue of its availability for free.
I think that was the point I was really trying to make.

Maybe the seller has enough buyers that answering such questions is not worth the time or effort?janp wrote:Why not clarify it to a prospective buyer?

I just don't see any logic to support your assumption ... in fact the opposite is more likely. Respironics suddenly prohibited the "sale" of the Enocore Pro software to patients ... not to non-patients. As far as I know, Encore Pro is still available and being sold to non-patient RTs, DME's and such.janp wrote:Plus, we're talking years since Respironics made the program unavailable to consumers ... I don't know where it is available for free and if it is then it is illegal ... but that would be just my assumption.
DreamStalker,
I'm not sure why you've turned my observations into such a big issue or worked so hard in defense of the seller.
But let me defend myself ...
If I (and I expect anyone) were selling Encore Pro, I'd not hesitate to tell my prospective buyers that the disks were originals ... not copies.
Maybe you would expect to buy an original disk for $60 ... but I don't feel that's realistic. That's not an assumption.
However, I will challenge you on the availability of Encore Pro original disks for sale to non-patients. DMEs, RTs, CPAP stores or doctors are not going to risk their relationship with Respironics by selling EP to their patients/customers.
Find one and there will be a line of buyers at their door.
If you can find the current version for sale ... 1.8.69, or even the last version that a consumer/patient could get (how many years ago?) ... 1.8.49 ... please let the forum know. I'm sure that there are a number of people here that would love to buy it.
Your assumption is wrong ...actually, when it's available for free (and from your number of postings here know that it is) ... that's giving it away. Giving something away has never been illegal. At least if it's not a "single license" piece of software ... and EP is not.
That's not illegal.
Regards,
Jan
Re: Encore Pro for $60 - is this a good price?
$60 would be a good price - However, I concur that this seller is selling bootleg copies on Ebay. Look at your disk - can you see that the label is stuck on to the disk? Look at the splash screen - can you see that an L-shaped portion of the image has been masked? Did you get documentation, or customer support information?
Making use of a bootleg might be pardonable - profiting like this off of bootlegging is not.

Re: Encore Pro for $60 - is this a good price?
i scrolled through their feedback, and if you look at the dates of feedback there are big gaps, almost like they are making a batch, selling, and then making another when sold out..just an observation.
