sinus problem

Post by Jharrold » Mon May 04, 2009 4:54 pm

I have had my cpap for over a year now. Been to the Drs. and have used all the sprays. My nose will not quit running and I sneeze frequently. Have used all of the humidity levels available. I called cpap and they said they did not know and gave me this web site. Would sure appreciate any info on this.

In two words: Neti Pot. Which is a means of nasal irrigation. One treatment made a huge difference for me. Instructions came in the box. Although my doctor had previously given me a syringe and instructions made for children. She said the children usually figured it out without any additional instructions. Using the syringe one helped me enough to propel me to buy the box with the Neti Pot, which came with the other neat thing, then little envelopes of salt, sodium bicarbonate already measure out, just add distilled water, and do a procedure I really do not like doing, but love the benefits.

In addition to the above, make sure you keep your filters clean and change the ultra fine filter often. Have you tried an over the counter antihistamine like loratadine?

I have had my nose broken 3 times (deviated septum to the right) and massive allergies, use a good saline wash each evening and check out the URL below, it keeps my sinuses open well year round.

There is Neti pot,or Sinus Rinse bottle. My sinus was infected time after time. My Doctor recommended that I get the Grossan Nasal Irrigation System. I bought it on-line for about $95.00. It is worth every penny - if it broke tonight, I would be buying a new one tomorrow. There are several brands available, they all cost about the same. Water Pic has a device you can use with your water pic and do nasal irrigation. it is less money.

The machine has a little pump, that projects a saline solution into your nose, one side at a time. You can buy the saline packets to use in the neti post, sinus rinse bottle or the Grossan at almost any drugstore.

I used to have one sinus infection after another, and never went through a winter without a long lasting one, that took one or two - even more courses of antibiotic to finally dry them up. Not so this winter, thanks to the Nasal Irrigation. I use it twice a day.

There is another side to it. It isn't a permanent cure. I still have sinus drainage, but I can keep it under control with one of these methods. I just prefer the Grossan. If I neglect doing it, my sinus starts acting up.

There is help for you, but you have to get one of the systems, and discpline yourself to do it every night & morning. Good luck to you.

Just another plug for the neti pot. I learned about it from this forum, and found it really really helpful.
