Hi I have been using my Sandman HC Auto for about a month now, and i was not advised to use demineralised water, now I have a calcium buildup in my humidifier chamber.
Is it safe to use calcium cleaning products (plus plenty of rinsing) in the humidifier?
On a similar note when I went out to get demineralised water I found an alternative to just buying the water. There was a product for demineralising water to use in clothes irons. I put tap water in and shake it up and out comes demineralised water. (it has some crystals or something in the base) Anyone think this is unsafe to use in a cpap humidifier? It seems way more convenient and portable this way.
Thanks for any comments.

My rule is that if I'm not prepared to drink the water at hand, then I won't ever put it in a humidifier.Budmiester wrote:Anyone think this is unsafe to use in a cpap humidifier?
Demineralisation is an industrial process and generally doesn't produce potable water, so I personally would never put it in a humidifier.

HI,
I would suggest distilled water, that is what I use in my humidifier and have no build up. I get it in the supermarket water section. Costs me 89 cents a gallon and that lasts about 2 weeks.

We are saving money by making our own steam distilled water.
We have a Water Works and we have the clearest water tanks on our humidifiers. No build up nothing

CONGRATULATIONS!

Bottom line answer.
Use distilled water.
So cheap and easy.
Bet many will tune with the wonders or a home distillation unit or a RO unit or demineralized.
Still bottom line is distilled.
No problem with using any water, it just causes film and precipetates, no risk to health.

Yes sure but you're probably not attempting to lug it on a bus or hiking 6 city blocks with a gallon of water.tomjax wrote: So cheap and easy.

Re: Demineralised Water
I only started using the humidifier recently, on a low setting.
I have been using a demineraliser, as I was just given one for the iron (thanks mum ) , and didn't have any distilled water handy.
I would not expect any calcium build up while using this, so it solves that problem.
I haven't noticed any odour at all from it, and nor do I have any growths in the water chamber.
Since I haven't cleaned it since I started using the humidifier, at this stage it all appears to be OK so i'll stick with this solution for now.
